Toothfairy question

We just got our teeth cleaned yesterday. My DS who just turned 4 had the XRays done, and you could see the permanant teeth on the XRays starting to come up under his baby teeth. The hygentist said that she thought it was going to be awhile before he lost any baby teeth, but it got me thinking. What does the tooth fairy leave nowadays?

I remember getting a quarter when I lost mine...but that was a long time ago. Have to adjust for inflation, right? My SIL heard a discussion on the radio that the average now is $5 a tooth. The range was $2 - $25 per tooth. Our toothfairy isn't Mr. Moneybags, and won't be leaving $25 :earseek: !

So, what does the toothfairy leave at your house?

in our house, the toothfairy leaves $5 for the 1st tooth lost, then $1 for every tooth lost after the 1st one

The tooth fairy left 10 shiny dimes per tooth around our house, until DS said he would prefer paper. That's when the toothfairy stopped visiting.

The Tooth Fairy needs to remember to keep lots of ones on hand if she doesn't want to give large bills. ;) (She learned that the hard way at our house, LOL).

Ohhh, Good Point! :)

yes, the tooth fairy was quite generous at our house since HE didn't have any ones, so DS7 got $5 for each of his first 4 teeth. DS has been told that the TF will only give $1 for the remaining teeth. He deserved the $5 each tooth since I know he's going to have a painful tween years with all the braces he's going to have, and now one permanent tooth is coming in sideways.

For a while - we gave DD foreign money. Had no value for us, since we don't have any foreign travel plans. It was most likely change from when I went to Cancun in about 1988 or so. She loved getting something unusual. Plus- you'll soon find out that kids compare notes on how good their tooth fairy is. It's hard to compare pesos with dollars ;)

In my house the toothfairy leaves $1, a little glitter trail and a note sometimes. (I email her as needed, now Nicole wants to email her :rotfl: ) For the first tooth she left a note, glitter, a new special toothbrush and some special tooth flossers.

My middle DD is so excited for her first to come out.

I can't remember for sure, but I know we did something special for the first teeth as DS had three come out at the same time. Now the tooth fairy brings $1 per tooth.

at our house the tooth fairy leaves $1.00 per tooth also. He may leave it in all different forms--4 quarters, 10 dimes, or a dollar bill--it doesn't matter to the kids--they are just happy in seeing that they got something for their tooth!

The Tooth Fairy leaves a buck a tooth at our house, although she paid her last visit this past summer. Once, ds (then 8) tried to pull a fast one on the TF and left a shark's tooth under his pillow, as he was sure the TF was not bright enough to notice the diference between human and fish teeth and that he'd score some more cash. TF left him monopoly money along with a little computer-generated note saying that Tooth Fairies are just like Moms--THEY KNOW ALL. :)

Well, my son just lost his first two teeth within the last couple of weeks. The first one, the tooth fairy left him five dollars. Then the next day he came home and told me she didn't exist, a couple boys in his KINDERGARTEN class had told him so. It bums me out that kids stop "believing" so young these days.

We've done several different things. If just cash is given, it's usually been around $1.50 per tooth. Younger DD had 4 teeth pulled at one time. She got money and a couple of the Disney Trading Pins I'd found on clearance (that was about 4 years ago). We've done Sagachewea dollars, real silver dollars (that was expensive... but that was what DH got when he was growing up. He wanted to continue the tradition. I put a stop to that after I paid about $17.00 for a silver dollar!), and half-dollars that I had collected as a kid.

Younger DD is having two teeth pulled tomorrow. Guess I ought to figure out what the tooth fairy will be bringing!

I give 10 for the first tooth and 5 for each one after that. She has every cent the tooth fairy has given her saved, doesn't spend any of it the cheapo LOL!! I have talked to parents in her class who give more than that..one gave 25.00 a tooth...well that just is not happening with my daughters tooth fairy LOL!!

Wow, these are some generous tooth fairies!

My dd got a golden Sacagewa dollar coin for her first tooth, then a quarter for each subsequent tooth, until the night the tooth fairy forgot to visit, after which I told her the truth (because believe me, the truth was better than having her cry "why doesn't the tooth fairy like me!")

I told her that now that she was so grown up, it was time to let her in on a little secret - and now that she knew the secret, she could play Tooth Fairy for her brother and sister when they lost teeth.

We did the same thing with the Easter Bunny, and she was inducted into the "Santa Club" after last Christmas, and can't wait for her first turn at "playing Santa" this year. The fact that Santa, Easter Bunny and Tooth Fairy all get to stay up late in order to do their jobs is an added bonus.

I know what you mean. One night the Tooth Fairy was slipping a dollar under her pillow and DD quietly said, "thanks, Mom." :guilty: Seems someone in her 2nd grade class had tipped her off. We have kept right on giving her the dollars contingent on her not speaking to us while we are doing our midnight run--it's best to make parents think you're playing along if you want the money. :rotfl2:

I draw the line at those nasty wisdom teeth though.

Younger son got a sacajawea dollar last week from the tooth fairy.

He was bummed, because he thought she'd leave him a thousand dollars :rotfl: .
It's been a buck a tooth at our house.

My kids were pretty young when they started losing teeth so they only got a quarter. They were happy, so why give more? I don't believe in giving kids much money before they even understand the value of it. I had one child who would get a dollar and lose it in his toybox. As they got older, the tooth fairly left $1 dollar bills for molars.
