Too Young For a Certian Purse?

Today I had noticed that my gym teacher was carrying around a purse that I had, and it's honestly my favorite one that I own. It is one of Gwen Stefani's L.A.M.B bags, and I quickly ran over to tell her that I loved her purse and that I had one of my own. She disregaured my compliment and quickly told me that I was too young to be carrying such a purse and it is too expensive for someone of my age to carry.

I am 13, the purse when I had bought it for retail was 77 dollars. (It goes on ebay for around 300 or so) I personaly don't think that it was that expensive and I am responsible enough to carry it. It do have 7 or so bags from the same line (ones even more expensive...) and this has never been said to me. I even carry "designer purses" (Coach, Burberry, LV, Dooney + Bourke) and never once has this been said.

I was wondering if you think that this was legitmate or not.

That's the purse in case you were wondering...

That's a cute purse. Because it's part of Gwen Steffani's line, I would think that girls and ladies of many different ages would buy it. Just ignore your gym teacher-since you like it.

Thank you for you advice. <3

I guess I was just started that someone had said that...

I'm sure that type of comment would bother me also, but these days people of all ages have all sorts of different items cause it is the trend-in thing.

:D haha, I'm proud to say that I has the bags before they became over whelmingly popular. (Eep, I've been a fan of No Doubt for 9 years now. *blush here*)

But I guess you're right.

Totally cute purse! Just ignore your gym teacher. I hope she was just having a bad day and isn't normally that insensitive. It really isn't any of her buisness what kind of purse you carry or how much it cost.

I'm a substitute teacher and I love getting compliments from my students. One of the girls in a class I had been in a few times noticed my new haircut and said she liked it. It really made my day!

So you carry your totally cute purse and don't worry about your teacher!

Melissa

Maybe she was worried that a pricey purse like that could get stolen at school and just didn't verbalize it well? Just a thought.

BTW I Loooooove No Doubt!

Would I buy my 13 year old daughter a purse for 77 dollars or more? No. I do think the designer purses, like Coach, etc. are rather pricey and would not buy one for my daughter.

Would I let her buy one with her own money. Probably but I don't think I'd let her take it to school.

Was the teacher wrong? Well, she could have just take the compliment and left it at that. Maybe she did worry that it would be stolen at school. I tell kids at school all the time to leave their gameboys etc. at home because I'm afraid something will happen to them.

Wow you spent 77 dollars on a bag? Yikes! When you grow up and have to spend your own money on things (if you ever have to) you will have a different opinion. I'm sure that your gym teacher spent her hard earned money that she worked for on that purse and it probably made her feel bad to see the little rich girl carrying the same one around. Not to mention that you have more where that came from? Oh yes and hard to believe that one can be a no doubt fan at the age of four.

Isn't there a teen board on this site or something on this site? Then people talking about important things such as a presidential debate don't have to be bothered with meaningless posts like this?

Oh and Serena, this isn't rude, this is reality for most people, maybe not you.

Don't worry about it Tinkerbellish. She was being judgmental and she had no right to be. You'll find a lot of those kind of people, you can't take it to heart.

She should have just said "thank you".

This was rude and uncalled for.

This was totally uncalled for. I enjoy reading the younger posters views. They are JUST as valid as any of the adult's views and I find some of the younger posters to be among the nicest people here. This is a community board and EVERY member of this community is valued, regardless of age and everyone has a right to post here.

If you don't like non-political posts, you will be sorely disapointed in this board since they make up a very small percentage of what gets said here. I suppose you won't much like posts about peoples families, pets, jobs, new homes, computers, disney trips (and other trips) either.

In fact, why would you even open a thread that was called Too Young for a Certain Purse if you feel that a question about purses is not meaningful enough for you. My suggestion to you is that you find a world issues or current events message board to post on, instead of a family oriented Disneyworld board because you are not going to like pretty much all of what goes on here. Most of it falls under your definition of meaningless.

How do you know she did not spend her own money?? She could have a paper route, she could make and sell crafts or other items, she could do work around the house to earn an allowance. Maybe she used a gift card or birthday money.

What difference does it make. I'm 27 now, and have worked every day of my life since I was old enough to do household chores. When I was 13, as the OP here is, I had a paper route and if I wanted something expensive, like a new stereo or a nice coat, I bought it with that money and perhaps this girl does the same.

I'm terribly sorry, as it sounds like you did not have the oppurtunity to work to earn some extra cash when you were a child.

My preference is to have a 5 dollar purse with 77 bucks in it.....

WIth that said.... it is a totally cute purse and your one very lucky 13 YO girl who can afford it.

Enjoy.

Yes. It was rude. You don't know the OP or Serena. You don't know if the OP has a job. She's obviously a teen and not making 6 figures, but lots of kids earn allowances, make and sell crafts or have paper routes. And as I said before, it may have been a gift.

FYI, I personally would not spend $77 on a purse because that is just not my thing. But I've spend $77 on other things that may not be the OP's thing and I certainly don't judge her because of what she likes to buy. THAT is the reality for most people. Most people don't care what other people spend their own money on. Everyone has something that they like to splurge on.

What this young lady does with her own money is her business and who are any of us to critique her for it?

She merely asked what the thoughts were on her teachers response to a compliment! Which by the way, I thought were rude. Take the compliment and say thanks...end of story.

My DD is 17 and worked hard all summer as a Kennel assistant at a Vets clinic. With that money she bought all kinds of purses including Burberry,Coach and Dior which I wouldn't dare tell you what they cost!!! But my opinion was and is, go for it! If it's your money and that makes you happy..there will be time soon enough for real life and the bills and responsibilities to set in.Have fun while you can...it is hurting nobody.

JMO...

This is very rude. Totally uncalled for.

Tinkerbellish---CUTE purse!! I had to go look for other L.A.M.B purses. I just might have to get one too! My husband is in love with Ms. Gwen. Anyways, you just keep carying your cute purses and don't listen to rude folks. I'd bet money that they are just jealous.

Yes Tinkerbelle of Winter, it was rude.

Dear tinkerbelle of winter,
I am not Serena - but I will tell you this, that was two very rude posts you posted on this thread.

I don't know who you are and what stick you have up your butt. If you are sooooo concerned about the debates, maybe you should log off the DIS boards and click onto one of the many political boards floating around in cyberland. The Community Board does not exist for just Disney and political discussions.

Sincerely,
Pam

To Tinkerbellish,
If you have the means of obtaining all of those purses - more power to you! My 19 yr. old DD, who is in college, is drooling for a LV and hopes to acquire a knockoff in the near future.:D

Hi Tinkerbellish!

I think a L.A.M.B. purse is certainly appropriate for someone your age and think the gym teacher should've just said, "thank you" and moved on... I'm 37 and think Gwen Stefani's just gorgeous (actually her husband is who I'm really hot for! :p ). I won't get into the fact that it cost $77 dollars--that's between you and your parents. :D As for your age and posting on the CB--I welcome young people's thoughts and opinions, and I hope you feel welcome here!

tinkerbellish -

i love that purse. :) i don't think it is wierd to have a purse that you paid $77 for. if you like it, who cares? :)

tinkerbelle of winter - spending $77 on a purse means someone is paris hilton? i wish! get a grip. ::yes::
