Too short to ride!

Would someone please explain the child swap process where one adult waits with a child that is too short to ride. I've never had to do this. My son is 13 and 5'10" so he can go on all the rides but on our next trip, my sister is taking her 7 year old grandson that is too short to go on some rides, so if I knew how this process worked it would really help us. ;)

Simply approach the CM at the head of the standby line, with the child, and ask for a rider swap. There are slight variances on different rides, but the CM will tell you exactly what to do.

Normally the first rider takes the ticket, rides the ride, and when they are done the person who had been waiting takes the ticket through the FP line.

Also, the person using the rider switch pass can bring up to two other riders with them (even if they just got off the ride). So if you have one or two children who are tall enough, they can ride twice (once with mom and once with dad) while the other parent waits with the not-tall-enough child.

Rider switch passes are good the entire day they are issued, so you don't have to hang around the ride waiting for your group to come out. So, you can take the not-tall-enough child somewhere else to do something fun.

How tall is her grandson? Unless he is very petite for his age, there shouldn't be much he can't ride. There are only two rides with limits of 48" in the four main parks (Primeval Whirl and Rockin' Rollercoaster). My son is 4 and those are the only two rides he is still too short for. If you still need to use the Childswap, as the pp's mentioned, it really is quite easy.

one other thing. if the child is tall enough to ride, they wont let you do the rider swap.
just for my own curiousity, how tall is the 7yo? we went this past augusta nd my 4yo was able to ride everything. im not trying to be insensitive if he has a growth abnormality, im just curious?

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:
That made me chuckle. No, I don't think he is abnormally short (we're going to measure him this weekend). If your 4yo could ride everything, maybe I'm just thinking he is too short to ride because he's usually beside my son looking up, but then, even I have to look up to my son.:lmao: I think maybe he will be o.k. after all. Thanks everyone!!

Soooo, since I never really paid much attention to child swap, please let me see if I have this right:

When we go next fall, my DS (HOPEFULLY!!!) will be tall enough to ride the 40" rides, but DD won't.

We can request the child swap with the CM at the standby line. All four of us wait in line together. When it's our turn and DH wants to ride first, DH and DS ride together while I wait with DD. When the ride is over, I then get to ride with DS while DH waits with DD.

Is that right? But, when they get off the ride, do we have to go wait in another line? And how does Fastpass work with this?

Thanks!

the child who is too short, in almost all incidences, will not be allowed int he line. i think star tours is the only exception to this.
so the 4 of you will go to the cm. he will give the person waiting with the child a riderswap. at that time the other adult and anyone who wants to ride will enter the standby line. then when they exit you can use your riderswap for you and up to 2 guests in the fats pass line. and this can be used at any time of the day but only once.

You have a 4 year old who is 48"? My 6 year old (will be 7 in Dec.) is only 46" with shoes. He may be on the short side of average, but 48" at 4 must be on the tall side.

My 8yo was able to ride everything and he is about average height for his age....so a 7yo should be fine.:thumbsup2 My 5yo rode everything except Rockin Roller Coaster because he is not yet 48 inches (he's about 44 and 1/2). Primevil Whirl is also 48 inches, but I believe it's still closed for refurb.

I've been worrying about this I guess what I need to do tonight is break out the darn tape measure and check DD. I'm pretty sure she's at the 40 inch mark but won't be at the 48. She's 6 will be 7 when we go and she's incredibly petite for her age. I sent her to school today in pants sized 3t. Genetics LOL. We're bringing my SIL who is 15 and we just figured that we would take turns riding with her and DS who will be 8, on the rides DD is too small for. I didn't know there was such a thing as a rideswap that sounds pretty neat.

oh and fast pass
if you have fastpasses tehre no need for the rider swap. you would have the other adult enter the fastpass line first. you wait with the child(or vice versa) then when they come out you enter the fast pass. you can use the child that is too short to get an extra fastpass for the other child so they can ride twice. provided the other child is over 3.

my 4 yo, will be 5 soon. but yes hes 48inches. my 8yo daughter is 58 inches. neither is excessively tall. they both seem the same as their friends.

Thanks, what a great idea! I think that is what we will do.:thumbsup2

You can also use FastPass in conjunction with the child swap. Just get the FastPasses like normal and when your window opens, get the child swap pass and instead of going through the standby line whoever is riding can go through the FastPass line. Then when they get off, the next set of riders uses the child swap passes to go through the FastPass line. Once you figure out the system, it really is very convenient.

when we tried to this on rockin roller coaster the guy took all of our fastpases for the rider switch. there was really no need for the fastpasses. which i wish we knew, we wouldnt have wasted a fast pass on them.

but we did have the choice, if we wanted to keep the fast passes we could if the first party went through the standby.

We never had a problem using them both. Rockin Rollercoaster was down while for rehab on our last visit, so I don't know about it. But I do know we used both on ToT, EE, Space Mountain, Test Track, and Big Thunder. Maybe they've changed their policy, or maybe you just got an overzealous CM. :confused3

i guess i just dont get why you would bother to get the childswap if you had fastpasses? just use the fastpasses.

Because then you get to ride again, like an extra fastpass. Plus the older kids get to ride an extra time as companions on childswap pass. Or, for example, we had won two Dream FastPasses and combining with the childswap, we were all able to ride quickly instead of only two of us being able to use the Dream FP's. Works for us, YMMV.
