My family and I want to do the 7-day Western cruise next year. We've done the 4-day and 7-day on the Magic previously, and had a ball!! My daughter, who will be 20, next year and finishing up sophmore year in college, doesn't want to do this trip, as there will be no one her age aboard....I told her it's a "family" trip, and it is for our family....She feels its more important to meet kids her own age...My son 16 will be a great age for it...I'd hate to leave her home, because I really want to go!!

Any suggestions?

I wonder if she's putting up a fuss because she does want to go but thinks it's for kids. My family of 11 went 2/2002. We had a hoot. My brother is 25 and his 21 yr old fiancee also came along. They had a great time. Your daughter probably will find things to do, people to meet. It'll be up to her. When we went with my family of 4 2/2000 we 'kicked out' 15DD (at the time) in the am and told her to go find some kids her age. She had a great time. She needed a push.

Family is 100% important to me. Don't try to please the entire group. Let everyone go their own way - meet up @ dinner to talk about your days. She'll come around.

See if she has a friend who wants to go. OTH, she is 20. I realize that you want it to be a family trip but maybe she should be the one to decide whether she goes or not and respect her decision. She won' t have any fun if you force her or if she feels uncomfortable and lonely.

Point out that she's old enought to do the 'adult' stuff. Let her choose something that would be special and exciting for her, something to look forward to. Has she gone before on the other trips? Use this board to see if there will be any other adults her age going at that time.

Well since your DD has been on the Disney cruise previously, she must be aware that there will be plenty of young adults her age on board ship. I suspect there is another reason that she may not want to cruise with the family. It is an age of showing independence and this may be a way of doing so.

My DD's are 19 and 16 and always find lots of fun on board the Disney cruises.

I would not push, but try to encourage the family cruise. Good luck!!

Just a thought, but is she aware that the drinking age in the islands is 18?? LOL My DD-to-be is looking forward to sharing a marguerita with her folks!

Don't jump on me, people...just a joke...sorta! ;)

I agree with others (and fawn ;) ) that she is probably not realizing how much there is to do for her age on a cruise. Disney is typically thought of as "kid fun" and at that age (like CarolAnnK stated) she is trying to assert her independence as an adult. I think she may regret not going when viewing all the family pictures of the wonderful time you all had without her. Has she looked through the cruise brochure recently to see the cruise activities available to her (that weren't before) ? I would also have her look through the DISboards to get more information about others her age who have cruised and what their opinions were (I don't think there's much of a risk in finding unhappy twenty-something cruisers :smooth: ) Good luck - I hope it works out well and she comes to her senses. Gosh, I wish my folks had offered me a cruise at ANY point of my life :bounce: .

Fawn....my DD is also really looking forward to having a drink on the islands where the legal age is 18. Hey when in Rome.....

She will be with us so I don't see the harm.

MJ...I agree. Follow the law...and the law there says 18, so we'll allow it. And like you said, they'll be with us.

Our older kids are excited about all the excursions and being able to walk around the towns. They are also looking forward to being able to go to the "adult" entertainment at night! There are things for the in-between crowd, but I do understand why they may be leery of it.

I agree with Trishy. Bottom line...she'll regret it if she doesn't go.

Maybe the 20 year old has a new boyfriend that she doesn't want to leave behind...
