I will preface my comments by stating I absolutly have no issue with those who use scooters for medical reasons.

Its annoying though when you see a young group of people using them or people who are clearly just fat and too lazy to walk like everybody else. Its like Wall-E come to life.

But who is Disney to say who is legitamatly handicapped? They can't so its up to Disney to work their magic so that this new element of our society doewsn't hinder the experience for everybody else.

They're failing from what i can see last week in the parks. From what I observed I feel they need a seperate right of way throughout the parks for these things. A section of each walkway needs to be segregated off for these things, certain areas need to be scooter free zones and finally their needs to be signage directing people on scooters where they can and can not be.

The vast majority if not 99% of these people can walk. Requiring them to follow common sense ground rules is not too much to ask. Afterall you would drive down the middle of the road why would you do the same on a scooter traveling through a narrow pathway?

So on this scooter path. Would the family members be allowed on the path or is it just for scooters? I'm guessing you want to separate families with this plan?

There is one path in WDW that is labeled for wheelchairs/ECVs. It's on the steep hill entering The Land in EPCOT. I can understand trying to separate there for safety reasons because going down that hill is pretty fast in a wheelchair. Almost every time I use that path in my wheelchair I have to dodge people in the lane without a wheelchair/ECV. So having a dedicated lane there doesn't seem to help much.

Hi, I'm one of those people who you might consider "too fat and lazy" because I don't have any obvious, visible medical conditions, but walking for any distance is incredibly painful for me. Not everyone who "can walk" can do so for the distances required. Should those people have to be in excruciating, unnecessary pain because you think they deserve it?

I get awfully tired of attacks like this. I get tired of nasty looks and verbal abuse. Who are you to say who is legitimately handicapped? Do you read minds? I'm tired of this judgmental BS. You DO NOT know what people's circumstances are, and I refuse to accept being thrown under the bus because a small number of people might be faking.

something clearly needs to be done. Those people who dont have a legitimate disability are also hindering your access as well. I was in the haunted mansion a coupled days go and there were two very rude scooter people who where fully capable of walking but instead were allowed to scoot themselves into the attraction using the conventional pathway and ran over two kids in the process.

How do you know they were fully capable of walking?

You obviously do have a disablity. This was not an "attack" on you..this is a discussion about the problem these scooters have when abused by those who just want to joy-ride their way through the parks.

because you don't know anyone's situation you can't assume that they are just fat and lazy. I don't look disabled I ride a scooter and because of my many health issues I am over weight. I would gladly trade my pain for your ability to walk

I don't look like I have a disability though, I look like one of those "fat lazy fakers" that you're complaining about. The people you're complaining about could very well have similar issues. You are attacking me, and you don't even know it, because you think that you can tell who can and cannot walk by looking.

You can say all you want when you're the recipient of all the dirty looks and comments that people who use scooters who don't "look disabled" get.

Because of the dozen or so scooters parked outside one of the restaurants.

Just because someone is able to walk for a short distance doesn't mean they can walk the 8-10 miles a day it takes to be able to do WDW. For instance, when we went in September, I was on crutches. I left my ECV at the entrance of the restaurants we went to and I went in on the crutches. There's no way I could do a full day at the park on crutches, but I could walk a short distance on them, such as into a restaurant to my seat.

OK, this thread is going to go nowhere good.

Not all disabilities are visible or equal. Many people who use mobility devices can walk short distances. You may think people are faking because they park a scooter outside a restaurant, but I bet you would be just as annoyed if they took them inside and blocked pathways inside.

I am a full time wheelchair user. I can also walk short distances. Does this mean I am not really "disabled?" The government approved my SSDI the first time around, something done in less than 10% of cases, so apparently THEY think I am disabled. If I park my chair outside a ride, does that mean I am faking?

You cannot possibly tell what a person feels and goes through simply by looking. This kind of thread just attacks people who use scooters, and makes people who need to use them feel badly.

This forum is here for information and support, not attacks and unkind words. I am going to close this thread now. Everyone, please try to be kind and supportive in your posts here.
