Thanks for all the advice....but I need more. Got several quotes and can't decide what's best to do.

Taking 17, 15, and 6 yr old with DH on 4/16/06 Easter Cruise.

One quote for outside verrandah cabin with inside (across the hall room) for $5878.00 (had to be booked today for rebate) cat 11 inside room - rms 6089 and 6088.

2nd quote for similar $5500 (not trip ins -so essentially the same prices as above) but they are "secret rooms" that folks talked about. This person knew what she was doing. 71 something - ajoining cabins.

3rd quote - for $5000 for two adjoining outside rooms with porthole only? - waiting to hear what rooms.....

I'm thinking we should take the $5500 quote - the rooms are likely larger?

HELP!!!

I would think that the $5000 rooms would be the same size as the $5500 rooms. The "secret porthole" rooms (if that is what you are talking about) are category 9 rooms essentially that are classified as category 10's. So I would go with the $5000 quote unless I am understanding wrong or if you have a strong preference between the decks of the two sets of staterooms.

Basically all rooms from categories 5-10 are the same size inside the room. 5-7 have some sort of verandah, 8s have the large porthole (and these are the secret porthole rooms too that are priced at a 10), 9s have the smaller portholes, and 10 are inside with no porthole. I believe that the TA was talking about the other secret verandah rooms from the deck since the SPH rooms are all on deck 5. Also, looking at the fact that you have kids I would think that the adjoining rooms would work best for you. I would go with the two category 8s for 5000 however, the extra 250 per room for a verandah is quite the deal. :)

Deck 2 Cat 9's have the large porthole, Deck 1 Cat 9's have 2 smaller portholes...

Yes, if they are talking about the other "secret" rooms (which they must be since they said deck 7), then I would go with those $5500 rooms for value, but if you want to save some money and use it on other things, the $5000 rooms would likely be quite nice as well.

I'd like to save some money, but at this point....most deals are gone because it's an Easter Cruise. It's 2K more than the Feb quote we got, but it's going to be warmer....and we ski in Feb.

I'm still waiting to hear back about what specific rooms are in the $5K plan.....I've called back twice and they keep saying they are on with DCL. I guess I'll hear tomorrow. I think they don't have a verandah...but may have porthole.

I just can't decide if I'll feel claustraphobic without verandah.....because we've never been on a cruise before. But I just want to get this settled.

It's a surprise for my kids and I've been on the phone doing "Disney" all day so they are getting mighty suspicious. I can't decide if I'll tell them at xmas....or wait till April vacation when we're on the plane. This is SOOOOO much fun. I have wanted to do this forever....and finally got the nerve.

Well, 7120 is one of the of the secret rooms that are actually a category 5 or 6 but priced at a category 7 rate. The other one is probably the category 7 room 7122. The passporter says that 7120 has a plexiglass verandah and partially obstructed views from it due to the hull design but their verandahs are not enclosed like the other cat 7 rooms.

I would find the extra 500 & book it. There are only 4 of these rooms on the ship so the chances of getting it again are slim. :)

As far as the clostrophobic part, we have had an 8 & a 10. We weren't bothered by it at all & spent most of our time up on deck 9.

The problem with the two less expensive quotes is that I couldn't get either rep to call me back after the first call. She had me on hold forever with Disney about the "secret" rooms since she knew exactly what I meant (even though I really didn't know what I was asking her about!!!!).....but I couldn't talk because my 16 yr old was in the car. I tried to reach her 15 mins later at 3pm.....but she didn't answer my call back. I think these are the rooms will take. If it's partially blocked, but still open...I think that's a nice compromise.

Thanks for making me feel better. It's a ton of money for us to pay when we're used to using our DVC points and not cash. But I know it will be worth it in the end. And I'm not using up 900 DVC points in the process.

My kids are in the meantime very suspicious. I think my kids are going to hold a family meeting to discuss what I've been up to. The 16 and 14 yr old have both quizzed me today. I'm on a short leash.

I LOVE your daugher's Cinderella picture. My 5 yr old would be so envious if I showed it to her.

How did you figure out how to upload a picture. I've tried to search several times and can never figure it out.

Thanks again, Michele

Michele, I was the one that told you about the secret rooms, (in your original post) so I'm SO glad you're going to take one!! We're in the 7620 rm. next June, so I don't even know what it looks like, but what the heck, we're getting a verandah and paying for a cat 5, nice. Anyway, let us know what the final decision is, ok? Oh, and tell those kids!!! They would be so excited in the next coming months, which month are you booking again?

Don't leave us in suspense here!!! :) Did you get the rooms?

I had an appt this am and couldn't chase , but I've left messages again. I can't stand the suspense.

I know...it's a lot....but it's the Easter cruise and I want warmer weather.

I don't think you'll feel cluastraphobic w/out a verandah ... you really don't spend much time in the room anyway. The rooms are a decent size for a cruise ship and you'll have adjoining rooms so plenty of space. I'd take the cheaper deal.

good luck!

The TA who called me was Dana from http://www.micdan.com/ which was a referral from someone on these boards.

She has us in 6098 and 6099. I think it's a great compromise....and has a verrandah.

I'm just tickled pink to be booked. And no Jillpie I am NOT going to tell the kids. Two years ago when we added on at BCV I was going to keep it a secret and I spilled the beans in 24hrs....the kids were actually mad at me.

So next is to find someone going on a cruise between now and November who'd let me paypal some money to them to buy a few things onboard with DCL logo. I'll put those in a box with a small ship, dramamine, etc......and will wrap it up for xmas. I'll post for the cruiser - anyone have any ideas what to ask folks to get me?

I CAN NOT WAIT. I'm on the ceiling. I wish I'd gone for the 7day.....but this is a start.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. What would we do without this board?

The link to a pic below was taken by me in 1997....we surprised our kids with the official Maiden Voyage of the Magic that was originally due to sail in March of '98....they had a preview area set up for DCL at WDW where you could buy cruise line t-shirts and license plates...I had bought 3 shirts and gave them to kids at Christmas to surprise them with the cruise.....it was great but then the cruise got delayed 2 more times and the ship didn't actually sail until July 30, 1998.....

Loved your pictures. I showed them to my DD (11) and told her one day I would have her first cruise pictures (when she was 6) out and the one when she is all grown up.

That is one neat thing about going on the DCL almost every year, we can see just how different the girls are from year to year!

YEAH!!! We wont be going until 12/10 or I would be happy to pick some things up for you. Hmmm...how about a DCL pin, a DCL Christmas ornament, Castaway Cay postcards?

I suggest the Christmas ornament also. DD brought us one of the 2005 ones home when she got off for vacation in February and they are neat.
