Too many points

Is there such a thing as buying too many points, that is, once you factor in annual maintenance fees?

Sure - I'd say you have too many points if you can't comfortably pay for them and your annual maintenance fees without stretching your budget in some other direction.

Outside of the costs factors, which are important. If you find you can't use and start to lose points even after banking, from one year to the next, then you have too many.

Too many points ??...sounds like too much chocolate, but mostly it's a financial issue. As the other responses have said, if you can't afford the annual dues, then you have too many points.

The only thing worse than too many points, is having all of the points in one contract rather than multiple contracts. Then you have to sell everything...
