We are going to BLT for the first time. We have a 2-bedroom lake view...should I (or can I) make a request, or am I likely to get a decent room?

If there is a particular location you'd like then go ahead and request. It's just that, a request and may or may not end up happening. But if you want something and don't ask, then the chances are very slim of getting it. (so slim that if you do get it, quick go buy a lotto ticket).

I don't know how true this is, but I thought I'd pass it along. I have read that you can call the hotel directly at 10 days out and ask to speak with someone about room requests. I have *heard* that they start working on room assignment 10 days out, so you can put your request in the mix of all the others that will be there.

Room requests should be added to your reservation by MS. Disney has stated that they do not want phone calls or faxes for room requests. When calling a resort, your call is answered by a call center in another town and it is their job, not to transfer you to the resort.

This is a long account of one of my experiences with a room request.

Several months out, I made a room request for our first stay at BLT. When we arrived we were in a great mood.

(In part because we got to talking to a gentleman in front of us who was checking out, he had been there (the Contemporary) for a big family reunion, etc.; anyway, he had a nephew run up to the room and gifted to us, complete strangers, an unopened bottle of Grey Goose with an "enjoy, have a great vacation". Strange but true.)

So we get to the desk and yea, our room is ready! I was so excited. I told the CM it was our first visit and asked if she would point out our room on the map. Well, it was immediately apparent that none of my requests were met (north tower, even number, high floor).

Well that really killed the mood. Literally, I think my face fell. I asked if my room requests were noted on my reservation. OK, they were. I told her this is our first visit and I made these requests months ago. The CM asked me to wait and made a call. Then another call. Said nothing else was available. I said I could wait to get into my room until 7:00 PM if they needed time (this was at 10:30 AM). She made another call and asked us to wait. (By now I felt really bad about holding up the line, but this was an 8 night special trip for us.)

After another 10 minutes, she comes back and tells we have found you a new room. Shows us the location on the map. Three for three! All my request were met, and get this, the room was ready!

So my advice, if you can manage it, is to tell them you will wait until the latest hour of the day to get the room location you want. I'm still not clear on how room assignments work. This was the only time in maybe 10 trips that none of our requests were met and I made a "fuss".

DH was a bit embarrassed, maybe? at check-in, but so happy when he saw the view from the room we eventually got.

I am glad that you were able to get what you wanted, but what probably happened is that they moved someone else from that room--someone who may have very well have put in the same requests as you.

To OP, if you really have something you are hoping for but are okay if you get there in what you requested hasn't been granted, then I say add them as it can't hurt.

If you will feel disappointed, then I say just go with it and be surprised. We have stayed at BLT 3 times and have been happy with all the views we have had so far.

I guess I don't know enough about BLT to know what I want. I do want an actual view of the lake for my Lake View room...will that be hard to get?

What are the "bad" Lake View rooms?

If you want a view of the Lake request an odd numbered room.

I would also guess that this is probably what happened.

No guessing to it, if they had what she requested when she checked in, there would have been no delay. The rooms had been assigned, so the Front Desk CM had to get permission to move someone else out of that particular room.

The early bird gets the worm...the later in the day you arrive, the greater the chances are of your assigned room getting reallocated to another guest who arrives before you.

Not a great sign for us. We arrive early evening.

Early bird may get the worm if they complain about what they were assigned so don't give up hope. We always arrive early evening and have been fine but the one time that I checked in mid-morning was the "worst" room I've ever gotten. (4th floor MK view studio that really ought to be a LV or Standard view room).

If you want a view of the Lake request an odd numbered room.

If you "request" or end up with an even number room, what view do you get?
Thanks.

You just seem to have the worst luck and experiences.

It wasn't a bad view and if you think about it there are only a few rooms on the outside of the "C" that have a true lake view. Disney misleads it's Guests with their view categories. In Mickey's mind, if you can see water, it's a lake view.

At Kidani we had a Savanna view that over looked the rear of the pool area. Now that one we did complain about and the response from the Front Desk was "everyone complains about those rooms". Later we met with the resort manager and she stated that Parks and Resorts was working with the DVC to reclassify those rooms. I don't know if it ever happened.

It did. I had one of those rooms as a Standard view in January. The front desk told me they had just been reclassified.
