Ok, we booked a last minute vacation and it is my daughter's first trip to Disney (age 5). We wanted to take her before she started school. So, I tried to book a character breakfast (Akerhus at Epcot) and it is completely booked the entire week we are there. What are the odds of cancellations?

Also, will we be able to wing it and eat at various restaurants in the parks without reservations or should I try to figure everything out this week and try to make reservations. It seems a little much to me to try and plan everything before we even get there - but I haven't been there in over 20 years! :) I am concerned about rushing things and having to rush to get to dinner while we might still be enjoying an area of the park. Also, how do I know what type of food I might be in the mood for 2 weeks from now.

If you suggest I get busy and book reservations, what are some of your favorites? We are doing the DDP so I would like to make good use of it.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts and suggestions!

wow!! i would try to book off-times. have you looked at the menus to determine where you might like to eat? good luck!

well, first.. frankly, it's nuts to even consider winging it, if only because you are on the dining plan. those credits are bought and paid for and expire whether you use them or not.

if you really want to dine at akershus, have you considered lunch or dinner? all 3 are princess meals and lunch and dinner are not nearly as popular.

do people cancel? sure. especially since akershus charges a penalty for not canceling in time for no-shows. the cancelation period is 48 hours. so just keep trying. but if you can get lunch or dinner now, take it, so you'll at least have something.

the only princess dining is akershus for all 3 meals, CRT for breakfast and lunch. however, there are cinderella oriented meals at the castle for dinner and 1900 park fare for dinner.

I suggest to try and get in resort restaurants if you cannot get into park ones. Try Ohana or Cape May Buffet for a character breakfast.

Dont give up, keep calling!

speaking of which, just to make it clear, i'm aware of no full service restaurants at WDW that reserve tables for walkups. you can get a walkup if there's space available, but if you call now and find your ideal dining location is booked, don't bank on being able to walk up to it instead.
