I have to start off by saying that we almost cancelled this ADR because I had read a couple of very negative reviews over on the Theme Parks board in a thread entitled "Mistakes I won't make the next trip" -- and eating at Tony's was a couple of those from posters.
I'm happy to say in our experience, they couldn't have been more wrong.
We showed up about 45 minutes early for our ADR but we were hungry and there was a parade starting so we didn't want to get caught up in the crowd. We were seated just about 12 minutes after we arrived. Initially we were told there was no way we would be seated early, but we were checked in. So I said, "Ok we'll be back" and she says, "Oh no you can't leave. If we call your name and you're not here you lose your reservation." -- HUH?'
This confused the crap out of me, no way we'll be seated early but no way can we leave. Umm... ok?
That was the only hiccup. Once we were seated, Nancy was our waitress and she was spot-on. We ordered and drinks came right away, salads arrived quickly after that. We ate and chatted ... the restaurant was super busy and very noisy but it's Disney you expect some noise. We happened to get a nice table for two in the back corner mostly away from the hustle and bustle.
We had just put the salads to the side when our entrees came. I ordered the NY Strip Steak and my dining companion ordered the homemade cannelloni stuffed with hamburg and sausage, with Alfredo sauce covered in marinara and topped with parmesan. Both were outstanding. The steak came with some potatoes and asparagus. I don't even like asparagus and probably even spelled it wrong. But I tried it and it had none of the bitter taste I usually associate with it. It was really tasty. The steak itself, I didn't have high hopes for.. Steak.. in a park? Can't be very good. Wrong. I had asked for medium-well and it was a spot-on medium well. Tender and very full of flavor. I was delightfully surprised.
Thought we were nearly full.. we decided to take a peek at the dessert menu. I decided to try the Pistachio Creme Brûlée because I love creme brûlée and my companion decided against dessert but had a cappuccino. Again, all the while, our server was patient, described the various choices and injected her opinions when we inquired.
While not everyone may have the same experience we did, I must say, we found it very much to our liking this go around. I should add here that my partner in crime last night is a restaurant server of 18+ years, a very critical judge of food, service and a dining experience in general.
The only complaint we could come up with was our experience with the greeting staff. No doubt it was a long day and they were tired and having a hard time explaining everything to so many guests who had no idea.
We did think a better way to approach it was "I can check you in now but I cannot guarantee you'll seat earlier ... what would you like to do?" -- but all in all a minor complaint.
