We are going witht the deluxe dining plan for our trip and want to try some new places to eat that we haven't been to yet. For our dinner at HS I was contemplating Mama Melrose? I hear good and bad things about Tony's. The menu seems a bit similiar?? We have never been to either. We need a dinner for a night at MK as well so I was going to chose one or the other. Any info on either one of these places would be great! Thanks!

I know nothing about Mama Melrose, but we just ate at Tony's Monday night. The food is delicious, the service is nice but a little slow (our waitress seemed to be taking everyone's order and putting them all in at the same time, same thing with getting the dessert and check - it could be me, though). Tony's is very NOISY though which might be a turn off for you. We liked it, but I probably won't do it again.

Thanks for your input :) I really wouldn't mind trying both at this point lol. And noise doesn't bother me...well, not at this point in my life with 3 young kiddos. What scares me is when it gets too quiet :rotfl:

What did you order there if you don't mind me asking?

we've eaten at both on our last trip in Jan, for the first time. We had eaten about everywhere on our past trips and decided to add these two despite the reviews, which is why we havent tried it. Tony's was a total delight :goodvibes
I had the fried vegetables which were good and the eggplant stack which was great! DH had the flatbread which he liked and the mozzarella. My dessert was delicious. It was the holiday cheesecake that had mint with it. Oh it was great!!! The restaurant is so cute. Our service was fine. They werent too friendly but they were there when we needed them. I would surely go back. I'm dissapointed that i cant get in there in Sept. We're trying the Liberty Tree Tavern for the first time. HOpe that is good. We liked Tony's better than MM. They had the eggplant parmesean on the menu online but then NOT in the restaurant. The waitress said they change the menu all the time. I got home and checked the menu and it still said eggplant, which is why i went there over my favorite 50's meal. We had the mozzarella which was good and the charrrrrrrrrred steak which was good. Dessert was cheesecake and it was ok.
Service was friendly and fast. I probably wouldnt go back to MM. I'd rather my pbj shake and meatloaf at 50's. Try them for youself, you may be surprised!:upsidedow

we did not have any noise issues at either. it was just fine for us. of course we like to eat at off times. i think our Tony's time was 3:30ish, after the parade.

I have eaten at both and I loved Tony's. I thought they were so good despite all the bad reviews.

I did not like MM's at all. I will never go back there

We tried Mama Melrose in January and my expectations were low because of all the mediocre reviews. We were pleasantly surprised. They served warm bread and butter and the pasta and chicken parm dishes were VERY good. Certainly not your classic Italian flavor, but a little more Californian/modern Italian. I'm from NY and 100% Italian and it still got my seal of approval. DH said that his seafood pasta was only so-so, but everyone else was happy in our group of 11.

We are trying Tony's for the first time in October and I'm hoping it will also be good despite bad reviews.

Anywhere BUT Mama Melrose. We have given this restaurant a few chances throughout the years and each time it was worse than the time before. Now you couldn't pay us to return.
If it is between those two, Tony's is decent and has great atmosphere.

We've eaten at both but MM is didn't leave a lasting impression. The food that I had was fine but my DS who was born in Italy wasn't too impressed the the food at MM. While were were at Tony's, our DS (7 at the time) was chosen to be junior chef. The Chef came out and talked to him, brought him a little chefs coat to wear during his meal (he had to return that) and a big white paper chefs hat which was signed by the kitchen staff and had a disney pin on it. He thought that was the greatest thing. I'd post a picture of it to show you but I dont know how. :confused3

I hear you being scared when things are too quiet - I worry whether they ran away or killed one another. :rotfl:

Anyway, I had the spaghetti with meatballs (unique, I know ;)) and it was very good. DH said his shrimp scampi was pretty good. Two kids had spaghetti and one had the mickey shaped ravioli which she absolutely loved. Only complaint is that they didn't serve enough on the plate (seriously, it may have been only five). That was really strange since all the other portion sizes were good. For dessert kids had sundaes (DD10 is considered an adult at Disney and had ice cream bomb), I had the lemon walnut cake- yum. And DH had tiramisu - he liked it.

If noise isn't a factor, go for it. Eating Italian is a refreshing change for us since we're burgered out by the end of the week. There are only two bathroom stalls in the restaurant and lots of families, so try and take care of that before you go in. Of course, if your kids are like - their timing sucks. :lmao: Enjoy!

We've eaten at both and much prefer Tony's. MM isn't terrible, but I will definitely only eat there again if I'm starving and it is the only place with a table. We weren't expecting much from Tony's due to the mixed reviews, but we really were pleasantly surprised. My DH had a delicious short rib meal with some sort of butternut squash side - something we definitely didn't expect to find at Tony's.

We prefer MM. We ate at Tony's a few weeks ago and were very underwhelmed. The pasta was mushy and the sauce was very bland. DH didn't care for the shrimp pasta dish. It was really sour. He likes lemony things, but this was too much. Meatballs weren't very good either. Also bland. DS8 liked his Mickey shaped ravioli and the appetizers (calamari and zucchini fries) were good, but not worth another visit.

We had a terrific meal at MM. Food was tasty and pasta was well-prepared. Super service. We'd go again.

Thanks to everyone for all your replies and opinions! I still have no clue as to which one we might try. I'm not much of an italian food eater, just concerned with our day at HS....and I've already been to SciFi so was wanting to try 50's this year. I wonder if I should do scifi for lunch and 50s for dinner? Ugh..decisions decisions

We've done both - Tony's on our Honeymoon and Mama's on our trip in 2008.

We choose Mama's - The food at Tony's was not very good and the service was even worse. However I heard that the food has improved dramatically and may give it another try in the future. Really a prime location you hit it right and you can see the parade.

Again still choose Mama's...

Goodluck with your decision!

We ate at Mama Melrose Sunday with the Fantasmic pkg and had a great experience. the food was awesome..we all loved it and they even gave us a toast of sparkling wine for celebrating our anniversary! Dessert was great too. The kids ate every bite!

I have always been pleasantly surprised by Mama Melrose's. My family is pretty particular with our Italian food, but Mama Melrose's is decent, at least. The pasta dishes are lackluster, but some of the grilled items and the flatbreads are quite good.

We did both Tony's and MM. I would go with Tony's. I can't help with your other choice, as we didn't eat at either of those.
