I'm going to show my ignorance to world events right now.....why is he stepping down? Is it an election year in 2007?

There doesn't have to be an election in a parliamentary system to have a change of party leadership. This is a power struggle within his own party.

I was just wondering last night. What is the view of the American people and the American news media of the British prime minister Tony Blair. Over here he is in some places considered to be Bush's lap dog but I wanted to know how he is viewed in America.

I think Tony Blair is very intelligent and a wonderful orator. Occasionally, I watch the debates in Parliament and the give and take is terrific.

Having said that, I see Tony Blair more as a big brother who follows the little brother around and tries, as much as possible, to keep him out of trouble.

It's the only explanation I can come up with for why Blair signed off on Bush's schemes.
