Tonga Toast

Well, I'm with you on this one. I was so excited to try the Tongo Toast after hearing so much about it. We even scheduled breakfast at Kona for that reason only. I didn't like it either. It was way too sweet for me for breakfast. I was really disappointed. I only managed a little of it. I sat there really wanting my husband's Big Kahuna breakfast though. We did go back to Kona's for breakfast on another trip and the Big Kahuna is yummy.

It's way too sweet for me, and I like sweet stuff. It's way too much for breakfast, and would make a better dessert, IMO.

I tried it for the first time last month after all the posts I read. I did not like it. I think the part I disliked the most was how it was sooo greasy, and there was so much sugar on it. Don't get me wrong-I'm all about the sugary sticky buns, cinnamon rolls, you name it...but this just didn't even taste good to me.

I didn't mind...I was on cloud 9 drinking the yummy kona coffee.:cloud9:

The only reason a sane person might not like Tonga Toast is that perhaps they forgot to slather it with whipped butter. It counter balances the excessive sweetness and masks any oily appearance it may have had when brought to your table. I used to get Tonga Toast and fruit, but the fruit was really too filling and sweet.

YMMV :cutie:

I believe that they have this at Boatwrights at POR, as well. They do not call it Tonga Toast, it's banana-stuffed french toast or something, but going by the description and the picture, it's the same thing.

And I love it!

We had the Tonga Toast at Captain Cook's almost every morning when we were staying at the Poly. We would split 1 between 2 people (no bacon or anything with it). I didn't think it was greasy at all--it was more like thick cinnamon-sugar toast with banana filling inside. Maybe they make the Tonga Toast differently at Captain Cook's (baked not fried)?

Anyway, we loved it, but 1 piece of toast only was more than enough for breakfast for both of us! If you'll not sure you'll like it, you can get it cheaper (and faster) at Captain Cook's. You can also get a big cup o' Dole Whip too!

im going to be at the poly next week and i HAVE to try it! it would be a shame to waste a whole meal if i dont like it but if i dont try it ill never know! im so excited!

My 3 favorite things in WDW are:

1. castle
2. tonga toast (I even use syrup on it!) no such thing as too sweet for me!:goodvibes
3. everything else!

Repeat...

Is this only available at Kona? I am hoping someone will tell me I can get it at the Ohana character breakfast.... (they are next to each other for goodness sake!)

I can't stand warm bananas so Tonga Toast is out for me. I wold love to try it if I could get it without bananas.

I can't wait to try the Tonga Toast in May-or the Mac Pine Pancakes-or the Tonga Toast...what to do!!!! Other posters have said that you can ask for the toast to be grilled instead of fried. Don't know if that will make a difference or not. Sounds too yummy to pass up & hey, you only live once!!

We tried the Tonga Toast for the first time last month and LOVED it!

I would never order it as an entree for myself but I will sneak a few bites from DH plate. I would rather have a plate of eggs benedict

i dont know 100 percent but im pretty sure it is only at kona or captain cooks

Thank you KimStaR. I really want to try it....

I love cinnamon rolls etc....and there is no such thing as too sweet for me; but my Tonga Toast was very oily/greasy...was not good at all. My DH omelette however was outstanding and we will be going back for those!! Maybe I'll give the pancakes a try. We had the best service there too!!!The coffee was great too and who doesn't love the ambiance!!!

Just a quick word from the diabetic in the crowd... yikes:scared1: !!! Man the carbs and sugar on that thing would take an entire bottle of insulin!
I'll stick with coffee and fruit!:thumbsup2
