I just came back from a wonderful trip to Disney where we stayed at the Polynesian. The hotel was great, the pool was great, the monorail actually worked but the biggest disappointment? Tonga toast.
I had such high hopes after reading about it. I even made sure to book Kona so I could get it with the strawberry compote... it was dry, lifeless and had maybe 3 slices of banana inside.

Sad, sad toast (the compote was delicious though).

I had high hopes for this also but found it overwhelmingly sweet. Especially with the juice on the side. It made me feel sick to my stomach so I had to stop halfway through. Taste wasn't anything amazing.

Tonga toast is the only food we've had at WDW that was absolutely disgusting.

It has changed and not for the better in the last two years or so. It used to be awesome.

I feel the same way about 'Ohana dinner, Le Cellier in general (both of which we used to love) and quite a few other restaurants/specific entrees.

On the other hand, lots of places have gotten better recently. That is why I don't rely on older reviews or believe the hype. We have been on yearly 10 to 14 day long trips for 17 years that have included 2 to 3 TS meals a day-a ton of dining. Things change, drastically in some cases, from one year to the next.

We ate at Kona during our December trip and DD had Tonga Toast. I tasted it and thought it was dry and just ok. Definitely not as good as you would have expected. She would not order it again, and I definitely would not order it. I had the Big Kahuna, and the biggest surprise of the meal was the pineapple pancakes! I'm not even a pineapple fan, but man were they good!!

I've yet to get the opportunity to try it, so it's disappointing to hear things like this.

Don't laugh at me but I love the fruit platter at Kona-let's keep it a secret. I agree sometimes tonga toast has been a miss for me too.

Yep. I find it hit or miss. The pineapple macadamia pancakes are amazing though!!

Oh sad. We're staying at the Poly in September and I was so excited to try the tonga toast. Maybe I'll pass. Sickeningly sweet before going and riding rides doesn't sound like a good mix. Hopefully Captain Cook's has some good options, we'll probably have breakfast there most days.

I have always booked a breakfast at Kona's for me and the kids because of Tonga Toast. This time I decided to try Capt. Cook's as I had read it was the same. We were very disappointed and I think it's a different recipe or something this time. The bananas in the center were cold and the texture of the bread was not as velvety as previously.

had it at Capn Cooks and was very disappointedly it was so dry that I had to use gobs of syrup to even make it palatable.
