I hate bananas. Really hate them.

But I love french toast and I love stuffed french toast and the Tonga Toast sounds perfect otherwise-- anyone know if they substitute on the filling ever? And if so-- what and how did you order this?

Related-- the bread pudding dessert at Ohana's-- am I stuck there?

I really hate bananas, and since I eat everything else (except for fennel and star anise) I am sad that bananas seem so heavily featured at WDW-- at least, at the Poly. I guess they are cheap yet read "tropical"... if I was catering a luaua on a budget I'd feature bananas too, sigh.

My husband once got apple filling in the Tonga Toast instead. He just asked the server when we were ordering, who went and asked the chef, and it was all right. It may depend on your server and/or chef though, so your mileage may vary. That was in June 2004. One piece of advice, believe them when they say to try the toast before adding any syrup. Soooooooo sweeeeeeet.

Not sure about the bread pudding, but I guess it couldn't hurt to ask? Good luck!

I'm not a banana fan either, but I tried Tonga Toast. It was so rich and sweet that I barely remember the bananas being there. LOL I'll remember to ask next time.. I would have loved to swapped the bananas out for some other fruit.

Bananas go along with the Polynesian theme. You won't find lots of bananas at other restaurants. They have a stuffed french toast at the Concourse Steakhouse for breakfast that did not have bananas in it if I remember correctly. My husband loved it.

From what I remember boatwrights at POR has a stuffedfrench toast too and its not bananas..

I recently had the stuffed french toast at Boatwrights and it DID have banana's - how it differed from Poly's Tonga Toast was that it had a strawberry sauce with it. Boatwrights also has more of a traditional french toast where a baguette is used. I've had both - both are excellent.

To the original poster - I don't like banana's either. I don't think I could actually choke down a regular banana out of the peel, but I LOVE Tonga Toast. I somehow can eat them in this dish, but I think it is relatively easy to eat around them too.

The bread pudding doesn't actually have bananas in it. They are in the sauce that comes on the side and you can either pick them out of that or just not put the sauce on the pudding. (Personally I like it w/o the sauce better- less sweet)

:)

I've never thought of asking about a substitute for banannas with the Tonga Toast...

I love Tonga Toast but if you don't like bannanas then you should skip it because the dish is full of them. I recall it being a very heavy bannana taste.

That was probably my favorite breakfast in Disney, Tonga Toast with a pot of pressed Kona coffee. It was just so relaxing!
