Is the Tonga Toast pretty much the same at Capt Cooks as it is at Kona Cafe? Will I be disappointed if we skip breakfast at Kona and go for the cheaper Capt Cooks?

I am curious about this too. We will be staying at the Poly in August and are not planning on eating at Kona Cafe for breakfast. I was really excited to see that the Tonga Toast is on the menu at Capt'n Cooks and since we do plan on eating there for breakfast a couple of times, I know I will be ordering that.

I haven't tried it myself, but have read on here a few times that it is the same, but you don't get the berry sauce with it

it's the same both places, except you get berry syrup in Kona Cafe version...and it's less expensive at Captain Cook's.

However, we found it to be sickeningly sweet...like so sweet 3 adults couldn't force ourselves to finish one serving we were splitting.
Something about hot-slimey bananas (which is what the stuffing is in this stuffed-french-toast) really grossed us out too. So I'd recommend getting the cheaper version at Captain Cook's unless you're sure you're going to like it.

Just curious, you didnt know there was bananas in it when you ordered it???

To each his own i guess, cause I LOVE IT!!!!! I ate the whole thing myself. LOL! It was sooooooo good. I ate it plain thou, no syrup or sauce. This is a unique dish, havent tried anything like it at other restaurants. If you love french toast, bananas, and have a sweet tooth like me, i'd highly recommend this delicacy.

I dont think you will be disappointed going to capt cooks. Its quicker and cheaper. Go for it! You wont be sorry. :thumbsup2

I enjoy the Tonga Toast much more at Kona, because the strawberry compote helps cut some of the sweetness. :)

Same thing minus the strawberry compote. Go for it at Captain Cook's if you want to try it since it's cheaper. I personally love it!

I ate at both places last year and had the Tonga both times. The only difference to me was the price. At Kona, you get to pay more and tip the wait staff. I didn't use the strawberry topping, so I guess that wasn't a deal breaker for me. You can get the Kona Coffee upstairs at Kona and a "sit-down" atmosphere

At Kona you get the strawberry compote and a side of bacon or ham I believe.

I've eaten both and the actual Tonga toast is exactly the same.

I absolutely love it. Never been able to finish one by myself but DD helps out by eating the ends...she doesn't like the bananas inside.

I love tonga toast! so yummy! i dont use the strawberry compote either. Its so good just on its own. I also have no problems finishing one myself! :goodvibes You gotta try it.

Its the same thing to us! we love CPTN cooks,

Tonga Toast goes great with a side of DOLE WHIP for breakfast!!

How late in the day can you get the Tonga Toast at Capn Cooks? I saw that Kona's open until 11:15 for breakfast, which I was pleased at-most places seem to stop serving breakfast earlier.
