Tonga Toast addicts - check in here!!

I will admit - we love Tonga Toast too - its a "must do" every trip!

In fact, we actually took the later flight home for our upcoming trip in October so we can have our Tonga Toast for our "last" breakfast at Disney!!!

Can't wait for Oct 7!!!

Here's the receipe for Tonga Toast :goodvibes

Ingredients
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2 or 4 slices sourdough bread cut 1 inch thick
1 banana
1/3 cup sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
1 egg
1/4 cup milk
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
oil for frying
whipped butter if desired
Maple syrup if desired

Directions

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Cut a 1 inch pocket in one side of the bread slice.

Cut banana in half crosswise, then split each piece lengthwise. Remove peel and stuff 2 pieces in each pocket, again depending on size. Set aside.

Mix sugar and cinnamon together.

Mix egg, milk and vanilla until well blended.

Heat about 4 inches of oil in a pan to 350 F.

Dip stuffed bread into egg mixture, allowing it to soak in for a few minutes.

Fry in hot oil until lightly brown, turning to brown both sides. Drain on paper towels on cake rack. Sprinkle with cinnamon-sugar.

I made ADR's for Kona in Nov solely because I want to try Tonga Toast.

Everyone chant with me:

I've always wanted to compare/contrast the ones from Kona (or Poly room service), PO-R, and Rainforest Cafe. Sounds like a serious scientific question that deserves dedicated research.

Okay, are these the only three locations to get Tonga Toast in WDW?

Does anyone have a picture they could post?

You all are making me want Tonga Toast!

I just searched for Tonga Toast pictures or photos "posts" only in the restaurant forum and found one from April 2005 and another from Jan 2005. It does look pretty good!

I'm leaving on vacation in 8 days and I can taste that Tonga Toast already!!!

Veni, Vidi, Devouri. I came, I saw, I devoured. It was better than I anticipated. I put butter on it instead of syrup and nuffed the whole thing. I even had a few bites of my 11 yr old's after she finished. I know, sometimes I scare myself, too.

:flower:

I do love me some Tonga Toast! Here's a pic to really make your mouth water!

I.Love.Tonga.Toast.

There is nothing better (well...almost ;) ) than dropping the kids at the GF Pirate Cruise, hopping the monorail with DH to the Poly and having a deliciously leisurely breakfast of Tonga Toast, bacon and a giant pot of pressed coffee. :sunny:

I HAD a ressie for my 1st Tonga Toast for our trip in Dec. but had to cancel due to Delta Airlines' changed my flights. Sounds like I should make another! Nothing should stand between a tourist and thier Tonga!

Thanks for posting this picture of my most favorite breakfast!!!!

When I ordered it this year and the server brought it to me she says, "Now, have you ever had this before?" I said, "Yes, many times" and she said, "okay" and walked away.

I said to my DH, "Was she going to give me tips on how to eat or what?" It was really weird - so I poured on my syrup and devoured it. I just love it, love it, love it!!!!!

I remember hearing that it was available at some other location, possibly even one that was a counter service restaurant??

I figured you addicts should know!

You can also find Tonga Toast at Captain Cooks at the Poly. Last time I had it, I think it was ~ $4.50. Quite a deal :)!

Is the Tonga Toast at Capt'n Cook's as good as the one at Kona?
