I'm happy to see the Speedway love on this thread

I know that it takes up a considerable amount of land, but it used to have an even larger footprint -- They shortened it when they made Mickey's Birthdayland way back in the late 1980s (before it became ToonTown and then the Storybook Circus)

It's not a bad attraction. But it really needs a car replacement. Something futuristic to match the theme. Solar cars, electric cars, etc.

I think most people are bothered by the fumes, the noise, and the handling/jerkiness of the old vehicles.

It really just needs some love-there's still plenty of interest in the concept.

We usually ride it on MVMCP nights after dark when it's not busy. Every year DH and I switch who drives. We try to get the right-hand drive ones because we're not used to them. The rule is that the passenger's role is to ridicule the driver as much as possible while they drive this shopping-cart-like-steering "vehicle" that we're crammed into which is too small, while driving in an unfamiliar position on the right hand and trying to stop it from bouncing around as it hits the centre bar. The goal of the passenger is to make the driver laugh so much that their driving capability declines even further, thus drawing more derision from the passenger and so on as it spirals down into chaos. We think it's hilarious. I'd miss it if it was gone or improved.

It does tend to be more of an attraction which appeals to kids. And that is OK! However I agree that it needs some major updating, at this point it's more of the "Yesteryear Speedway".

I love being the passenger and when we go as a group of three we always end up laughing so much at how bad my girls drive (17 and 20) it seems to still be a hit with them as long as the line is not long.

Although your not supposed to do it, giving a little "nudge" to the cars stopped at the end is always fun.
