Haven't heard this one before...Screamscape has the following:

(7/6/09) I’ve been told that just before the end of July we will see demolition crews enter Tomorrowland who will begin the process of taking down the old Tomorrowland Skyway building, leaving only the restroom facility behind once complete. The restrooms will also be redone and they hope to have it all finished and ready in time for Space Mountain’s reopening, just in time for the Thanksgiving Holiday if possible.

I can understand demolishing it, as it is unlikely unusable for anything else other than a patio, but I really wouldn't expect them to do it at all unless they had need of the area for something else...

Does that mean the will demo the skyglider home over by It's a Small World? I'm sure they could squeeze something there, food carts, picnic tables, a meet-and-great. Anything would be better then nothing.

i think they should of kept the building it would of been a great spot for another sit down restaurant or something along those lines. the station in fantsayland looks nice sitting there but i think it would be a great spot for the meet and greet with the princess, peter pan or tinker bell

I don't understand. They're getting rid of the skyway part but keeping and redoing the restrooms? It's all in the same building. What are they doing, demolishing the second floor only? Why not just raze the entire structure and direct people to another restroom facility elsewhere in Tomorrowland? What does it matter of the skyway potion remains up top? Why waste the money on removing it?

the tomorrowland skyway station is being demoed for space mountain. they're trying to see if they want to route people through the skyway building into space mountain for the fastpass line

I to am thinking it has something to do with SM. The quote says that demo will start on it by the end of July and they will try to finish whatever they are doing to it with SM by Thanksgiving. That to me sounds like it has to have SOMETHING to do with SM.

When the SM refurb started floating around, I had hoped they would deomolish this and put in a launch style entry to the main building, like at DL Paris. Obviously thats not happening, but it has at a minimum been an eyesore for a long time and its nice to see them actually doing something to get rid of that junk. Maybe they can send the demo crew over to Epcot to get rid of WoL while they are at it....

I just hope they dont make the line any longer:scared1: All though i had always hoped the would reopen the Skyway. I loved it..

maybe a redirect for the fast pass and stand by lines...something to keep them separated like in other attractions. Perhaps a single rider line? who knows...?

to me it doesnt make sense to redirect the guest through that building, it would be like splash moutain, a long time ago the line for the ride began where the brear rabbit sign hangs now you have to pratically walk half way around it. a gift shop would be nice or a character meet and greet or maybe they are planning to possibly squeeze a new ride in there im not sure, its just an idea:confused3

Please, don't suggest that! There are not enough rest rooms as it is in the MK. With the number of bodies on property at the MK at any given moment, they really need to keep all of the restrooms that they have.

I don't see the building being used for yet more queue space for SM. The current building isn't connected, and its being demolished anyways according to the report. I don't know how the queues run precisely within the building itself, but it doesn't seem like the location of the skyway building is anywhere near the current queues. They could just add on to the existing building if that was the intent. But to add a third queue line might require additional excavation under the railroad, and I don't see that happening any time soon.

I was reading the posts on here and looking at the links to how it used to be and then I thought, "What if eventually people paid Disney money to ride a few rides and have the privilege of shopping at all those souvenir stores?" Since when did them parks become shopping parks? Not just Disney, but all of them. If I want to non-stop shop, I'll go to the mall. It was getting annoying on my last trip when I realized how much attractions have given way to retail space. And since Disney seemed to cut back on the variety of merchandise, every store sold the same thing, everywhere.

Sorry, rant over.

That building, while not the prettiest, does block the view of the outside world. It has its benefits.

Actually, if you check google earth, you will see that even without that building, there would still be a forest there to block the outside view.

Why didn't they keep the Skyway lift?
This was always a postcard picture of Disney and a wonderful little relaxing ride. Do they plan to reinvent the Skyway later on?
