Okay, I've done my reading on this attraction, and I know about the 52" height requirement to drive alone.

What I can't determine is if it's okay for a child under the height requirement to drive, if there is an adult riding along with them??
Has anyone done this, or know the answer? I can't find an answer anywhere else I have looked so far.

Any help or info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Robert P

When I took my then four year old son he "drove" (steered) and I pushed the gas pedal as he wasn't tall enough to reach the pedals. Does this help answer your question?

Yes, my DS "drove" when he was three! He is very excited about maybe even reaching the gas pedal this time!

thank you both for the quick replies and info.

Last question: Does your child actually sit behind the wheel in the driver's seat, and you work the pedals from the passenger side? If not, then how do you do it?

Again, thank you for your help.

The only "limitation" as others have said is reaching the gas pedal when shorter. My DD is 53" and does ride/drive by herself, but she is shorter in the legs and has to scoot up in the seat to really reach the peddle.

Your child can sit behind the wheel and steer. The adult will need to push the petal.

That's great news, my son will love this. In all my years traveling to the world I have never ridden this ride. :)

The pedal is in the middle of the car so you can push it while they steer. I did this with my 3rd year old niece last year. She loved it. I think it was her favorite ride. We went on it like 10 times.

Be prepared for a lot of jerking around though. Even when an adult drives one of them it is hard to keep it straight and in the middle of the track. Imagine that with a 3 year old steering!

I second your warning. The first time I let my son drive, I ended up in the first aid center with a burn on my knee. Everytime we hit that rail, the car would jerk to the side and my knee would hit the spinning steering wheel. Funny though - the woman in the first aid center wasn't surprised that I was there as a result of the speedway. She said usually she has parents coming in with whiplash after letting their youngsters drive. :)

The second time around I positioned myself more effectively and came away injury-free.

Be aware that this is the line queue from Hades. Much of it in direct sunlight. And the diesel fumes are pretty overpowering. You would not believe the bribes I've offered to "buy-off" my DS when he was little to do anything else. If you have a local amusement park, it's well worth a trip to go round and round on their cars, once the child can steer, so it's out of the system. (JMO). :moped:

Too funny - I totally agree! I think it is the HOTTEST place in WDW! I will only let DD ride if we are there early and the line is still short! :beach:

I completely agree about it being one of the hottest places too, but it's my DS' favorite ride and he never complains about the wait. He also loves to "steer", i.e., he turns the wheel wildly and I try and keep the car steady while I push the pedal. We rode the Indy Speedway more than any other ride during our recent trip, it's such a hit with my DS.

A few years ago my DS drove right after he turned 2. I video taped it and we couldnt stop laughing (we still laugh today). He kept slamming into the rail and a few times I thought he would fly out even while wearing a lap belt. My dad then took him and let him drive out of the starting area. After a few hits he said the heck with it and took over.
