Yes, here in Florida, the first day of school comes early. I still can't get used to the fact that we go back in August. I have had to be back to work a week now, getting things ready, but the kids' first day is tomorrow!

It will be a big "first" for my own son ~~ he enters high school! He is nervous too because his schedule is being changed so he will not have the luxury of knowing where his classes are ahead of time. He has to go to a homeroom class and there all students will receive a new printout of their schedules, some of them getting revised versions. (like my son) He will only have a few minutes to look over the map and decide the best route to his first class. Poor baby.

Well, I hope we have another great year! The countdown begins again tomorrow for me: 197 days until summer vacation!

Hope everything goes will with your son--I remember (faintly!) those days!

Sounds like you are a teacher, too. How do you like teaching in Florida? We are planning on relocating after this year and will be looking for teaching jobs.

Hope the school year goes well for you. I know how it is having your child enter high school. We went through it last year. It's very nervewracking worrying whether they'll find their way around and things.

Of course, they all do survive somehow.:D He'll be fine. :D

I hope everything goes well for your son! My DD starts at her new high school tomorrow (she will be a junior). She is so nervous. It is a much bigger school than the one she attended in Missouri. We went to the school last week so that she could locate where her classrooms would be. We ran into her couselor who told her not to worry about it because the schedule she had was meaningless. All the kids have to stop and pick up a new schedule as they enter the school tomorrow morning because all of their classes could have changed. The school is very over-crowded and they have to keep moving things around to try to work the kids in. Poor kids!!

My DS will be starting Middle School in Sept. Next Wed. all the kids entering 7th grade, along with a parent, will attend orientation. During that time, they will do a walk through with their schedule.

Good luck to your son! I hope he has a fun first day. My daughter is also entering high school, (Sept. 1), and she is a little nervous. At least the first day of high school is reserved just for the freshmen so they have the school to themselves.:)

campingcorgi~ Since I haven't been teaching long, and Florida is the only state I've taught in, well my view on teaching might be limited. :D I was a stay at home mom for many years, and just recently re-entered the working world. All things considered, I've liked it.

luvflorida~ Wow, the first day is reserved for the freshman to get used to the campus? That's a great idea. Wish they did it here.

Thanks everyone for the encouraging words for my son! I am sure he will be fine once he gets the first day over with.

ADisneyGirl- hope your DS has a great first day at High school! It is a big deal, and I'm sure he'll like it- maybe not right away, but eventually!! LOL!!

My DD started first grade in NC this past Wednesday! Yes, there are places that started earlier than you! It is sooo early, isn't it? I wish there was a way for the kids not to have to go back so early- I remember when we didn't start until after Labor Day.

We go back tomorrow as well. There are going to be lots of changes for us this year. We are now a 6-12 grade school instead of a 5-8 school. I am also taking Megan with me this year. The big possitive change is that we have a new principal this year and the first three workdays were great. We heard words we had not heard for the last three years....please, thank you, appreaciate. I think it will be a great year this year.

Wow! Entering a new school IS a big deal!! Good luck to all the kids going through the change!

My son enters his LAST year of elementary school this year, and you'd think he was the MAYOR of his school he's so popular there! What a change it will be when he enters middle school next year... he told me today that he almost wishes he'd be LEFT BACK this year to avoid leaving! He attends a great school that is more like a family to him, the new one will have a hard time competing!
