However, that is actual time. In perceived time, it's more like 6 weeks!! DH has gone to work everyday this week. I think I've burned my monthly grocery budget in the last 8 days!! The private schools all had 2 days off, but none of them run buses. Our county is very rural and bus transportation is a huge issue in these storms.

We live in one of those counties that's always on the school closings list. The kind of place I used to dream of living as a kid is now my worst nightmare!!:upsidedow

I live in a rural county too and one year we were off for a month due to a really bad ice storm. My mom swears it was the longest month of her life...

I just saw on channel 12 that Goochland County has tomorrow off again. We are in Chesterfield Cty and so far we have not heard about tomorrow. I assume it's school regular time until it starts snowing.

Oh and hide the food if you can! :goodvibes Mine have done the same thing. They've had friends over and have gone through all the food!

You guys in Virginia have me worried, my husband left today to go to Richmond for work (we live near Philly). Will driving around in Richmond be okay? I know you are saying you are in rural areas...but I'm worried for him.

Yes, we're in Goochland. I wonder if y'all will have a 2 hr delay. Seems like they do that sometimes, to give them time to figure out if they should cancel for the day, or go. My brother lives in Midlothian, and I went to LC Bird, so I know Chesterfield pretty well. As much as I was griping about the food bill, if we all have our favorite foods, it keeps the cabin fever from reaching a complete frenzy!

Richmond may just get rain, if lucky. It looks like there's a real dividing line between the rain and snow. If it snows, he won't want to be on the roads with us!! He may drive well in the snow, but I can about guarantee you the rest of us don't!!

We are in Baltimore. My girls were doing the math last night. With the big storm coming in today/tomorrow...they are counting on no school Mon/tues, and then more snow on Wed...so no school Wed/Thurs...then they won't want to open the schools for one day...so no school on Friday...Then it is President's day...SO THAT IS 11 DAYS OFF--MORE THAN CHRISTMAS BREAK:rotfl::rotfl:

Everyone stay safe

We have had one 2 hour delay and that is it... with all the snow in the Northeast we only had one delay. Our district doesn't close for anything. And yes, my federal govt building still had to work even in 2 feet of snow.

any word on how your schools will handle the lost days?

the last 2 winters we had record breaking snow that closed schools so much it exceeded the extra days the public schools had built into their normal scheduals (for the normal amount of snow days). we were lucky though-there's some kind of law on the books in our state wherein if the snows bad enough that the govenor declares a state of emergency then the schools don't have to make up the days for that period of time.

of course at that point both of ours were in private and it seems like they never call a snow day, but it got to the point where dh and i took a stand with the administration and told them that if the news was reporting that the department of transportation had asked/warned motorists stay off the roads and to limit travel to absolutly essential travel our kids would'nt be attendance that day.

We're out today here in Hanover County. Went to school a whole 1/2 day this week. Woo Hoo. I am soooooo over the winter weather. I'm kinda hoping the bunny in my yard this morning is a sign of Spring :lmao:

Here in Fairfax County, I've heard from parents that the children are out of snowdays now and will have to go on President's Day and then start reaching into spring break and any teacher inservice days. They are already out of school today and I'm sure at least Monday and then more snow next week, these poor children will be in school come July if this keeps up.

Thankfully, in addition to Pres Day, we have two 1/2 days BEFORE Spring Break and they will take those for us first. I'm all for taking Spring Break personally because we get out late enough in June as it is. I NEED MY SUMMER :)

Good luck to all of those that will be digging out. I know I will be come Sunday morning. YUCK!

This happened with us one really bad winter. They took away our Easter vacation (gave us Friday and Monday only) then only had Memorial Day off and then straight through until almost the end of June. The high school didn't take away Easter vacation and they went until June 30th. Had to stop then because there was some law on the books that said school year had to end by the end of June. :scared1: Crazy!!!!

This is a sore point with me. Goochland, in it's infinite wisdom has 0 snow days built into it's calendar. We used to have snow days, and we used them. We go back to school before Labor Day, and are scheduled to get out the first week in June. Last year, we had a weeklong outage in March due to snow. I'd booked our WDW vacation for the 2nd week in June, and had to shift it by a week.

Because we're only in February, they'll cut all teacher workdays, etc, and do something to spring break. In writing, on the calendar, it says they could have to go to school til the 2nd Friday in June. I hope they don't try to extend that, because this year, I took the hint, and scheduled WDW for the 3rd week.
