It's a long story you don't want to hear, but my stepfather and sister were both ski instructors. I don't ski. I went one time...looong story.

So, I moved back to CO three years ago. I have played with the idea of taking my boys skiing, but haven't. I can't ski due to an ankle injury years ago (2 surgeries, a month in a wheelchair, 6 months on crutches...serious), but I saw that Vail is doing free concerts the first week of December.

One is Dwight Yoakam...I haven't seen him for years and would love to go. My sister said she'd join us. I found a hotel room...not fancy...for only $105 if I prepay 30 days in advance. Then I went looking for ski lessons/rentals/etc. The cheapest I can find for one day is $183 per boy. :crazy2:

You Dis folks will understand the mental leap my mind made: $470 not including meals...for one day??? Wouldn't it be better to put that money into savings for a Disney trip? I guess I could just rent equipment for my boys and ask my sister to teach them in return for paying for her lift ticket. The thing is, that doesn't save a whole lot. The $183 includes lift tickets, gps trackers, the lesson, and rentals.(And, that's at Copper Mountain, not Vail!)

So, I got to thinking that maybe some of you might have tips and tricks to get better prices on skiing. I'd appreciate any help anyone can offer!

Thanks!

Check the entertainmnet book, copper has had coupons in previous years. We've rented equipment in Frisco for less than at the resorts. Also, call Copper an inquire about a package. You might do better that way if they throw in the lift tickets or lessons.

I am assuming you are going to take your boys to ski more than once this winter. I am not sure where in Colorado you are but check out Colorado Ski and Golf. They have a great used trade program for skis/boots for kids. Copper also has a program called Scooters where the kids get a lesson every week. It includes a season pass as well.

Depending on the grade of your boys many of the Colorado resorts participate in the 5th grade passport program. Vail has their own program for fifth graders as well.

As mentioned earlier the entertainment book is also a good place for coupons.

Nope...it would be a one-time thing. I'm a single parent living on a teacher's income...and just having had to move due to my last job disappearing, I'm back down the pay ladder again. Making less than I did a decade ago. Such is life.

We're not far from ski areas, but at the prices they want, we couldn't go regularly.
