Sigh. A friend of mine used to grow the best tomatoes -- big, red and juicy. But she doesn't have time for gardening these days. I have to figure out how to get my annual "fix".

Same with my Dad. He used to grow them and make amazing sauce out of them. He didn't plant any this year. I guess I'll need to grow my own next summer. Nothing like fresh, homegrown tomatoes.:D

Oh my gosh, you guys read my mind! There is nothing like the flavor of a fresh, homegrown tomato :faint: I would do anything for a nice lettuce, tomato & mayo sandwich :(

Do you have any Farmer's Markets in your area? Tomatoes bought there are the best! I didn't plant any this year because last year's crop weren't very good.

I remember eating huge juicy ones from the garden with salt or sugar when I was growing up. Loved it. I like tomatoes still, but just can't seem to find them as good. I probably could, if I wanted to spend an arm and a leg. Now, I find I buy Santa Sweets a lot. Small grape tomatoes.

Tomatoes is one of the reasons I can't wait until we sell our house and move out to Middleburg. DH use to grow the best tasting tomatoes. The ones you get in the grocery store just don't come close to the taste of a home grown tomato.

I agree, garden fresh tomoatos are the best and people love to recieve them.
When or if you start to garden, join us in the flower and garden forum we love to see new members.

See my post on the corn on the cob thread!

They go together! Sometimes, on the really, really hot and humid days back in Indiana, that's all we'd have for dinner, corn on the cob and sliced tomatoes.

Come on over! I love to grow them, but am the only one who likes them - except the neighbors!!:p

Now THAT is one of the things I miss about my dad...he grew tomatoes and kholrabi.

I have none this year but hope to hit the farmers market in a few weeks. Hope they have some good ones.

Hope you can find a farmers market locally so you can get your tomato fix!

We don't have a garden, but I am growing a tomato plant, eggplant, and jalapeno plant. We just bought one a planted them in pots. They are looking really great!

Can't wait to have some fresh tomatos! :)

It's not too late to plant a few plants of your own. You don't have to start from seed, most garden stores have potted plants, decent size that you can plant right in the garden, or as Jenn Lynn did, in bigger pots.

My garden is growing great this year. We've got zucchini, summer squash, corn on the cob, tomatoes and cucumbers. We've already had a decent yield from the cukes and the zuchinni is about ready to start harvesting. The tomatoe plants are getting huge an I have some tiny little tomatoes growing and a zillion blossoms. I can't wait, mmmmmm

My dad grew great tomatoes at this house. He's 83 now and I have put the tomatoes in the past 5 years. At first I just planted them and he did the rest (I wasn't living here then). Now I do it all - he looks out the window occasionally but they are still known as "Dad's tomatoes."
