Tom Sawyer's Island

It seems that I'm in the minority here. :guilty: I'd rather TSI be left alone. I like the classics. Don't get me wrong. I love new rides. I can't wait to ride EE on my next trip. But I don't think they should re-do old rides to make room for new ones. While Disneyland doesn't seem to have that much room to grow, WDW does. They should just build new areas to the park. While I don't visit TSI every trip (I'm 25 with no kids), I know people that do. I wouldn't want to take those memories away from them. Why can't they just spruces TSI up a bit? :confused3 They already have a pirates themed area.

Very interesting! Any idea how soon this would happen?

It sounded like it would coincide with the opening of POC3 which is scheduled for the end of 2007 (I think).

I like being able to go out there and wander around, get away from the crowds, but I don't care of it is TSI or POC.

Highly doubt this one since PotC is in Adventureland and TSI is in Frontierland. I'd bet a whole lot of money that Imagineers would never even think about putting a pirate theme attraction in Frontierland. It's not in show, and next to safety, show is like the number 1 priority for WDW.

We never went to TSI. DD asked if we would this trip. Would be more interesting if they did change it to something with pirates.

I think the charm of TSI is that it's a chance for kids to PLAY in an unstructured way. The equipment requires them to use their imagininations. To me, cool caves and forts work, whether themed as TSI or POC. Forts and caves are piratey too. As long as they keep the place a PLAYground, I'll be happy.
That's how I feel too! :thumbsup2

I love Tom Sawyer island! I hope they leave it alone. POC has it's own attraction already. How many pirate attractions does one park need?

Whatever they do I just hope they add a BRIDGE so people can WALK across if they want! That smelly boat wasting all that gas to go twenty feet is SUCH a waste!! And it's so frustrating to wait and wait for it. The time is all taken up with the docking and the switching of cast members. Ugh!

POTC is one of the best attractions ever. In that POTC 2 is the 3rd biggest movie ever, if Disney can expand it, why not?

I love TSI -- I also love Tom Sawyer & Huck Finn (books and movies...Lit major/former English teacher here :)

Anyhow, TSI island is a strong childhood memory for me, and my kids have very much enjoyed it on our past few trips (without any knwoledge of the books, just an spirit of adventure...they are youngins.)

But, don't Tom and Huck every pretend to be pirates? (it's been a while since I've read both books...) Maybe it could be re-done in some way to tie in the excitement of pirates and POC, but still be Tom Sawyer's Island....

Why, yes, yes they do... :scratchin Sounds like fun to me!

I know this because I just re-read Tom Sawyer this week. And a jolly good read it was. I think that will be our out-loud book on the way to Grandma's when next we go!

OT, but I'd love to see something related to National Treasure introduced. Not on the island, probably a better fit in the Studios or around the American Adventure. That movie is a huge hit with my kids, as is the first POC movie.
Ooooh, that would be a great idea! Isn't it fairly close to the President's area too...that would play in nicely with all the history angle of the movie. I love that movie!

Out here it's been in the LA Times and on the local news that the island is going to become a "Pirates of the Caribbean" themed playground. At least this much is true: Disney has not denied this assertion when asked.

What a great idea to change it to a POC theamed area, I think it is time for a change, but maybe I am selfish as my kids are grown up now and properbly would not be interested in a trip to TSI on our next visit to WDW (sept 07). but I must say they did enjoy TSI when they were younger and maybe it would be unfair to kids visiting WDW for the first time, not to be able to experiance TSI.

I have to get to TSI this year because I would like to experience it before it is turned into something else. Weird area for it to be pirates though. In between Frontierland and Liberty Square! ... wonder how they will work that out.

I love TSI. DD 16 loved it when she was younger and DD6 had a great time there in Aug. We all enjoyed the barrel bridge, especially DH and DD's trying to make Mom fall. :confused3 We all enjoyed walking through the caves and DD6 just loved hearing the prisoner snore and seeing the horse getting fitted for new shoes.
The views from TSI are beautiful. I have a great picture of DD sitting on a rocking chair with BTMRR in the background.
One of my favorite memories on our last trip was on TSI. We were getting ready to leave the island and it started to rain hard. We went to Aunt Polly's and all had ice cream sundaies under the roofed area. We could look over at the HM and hear the howls. We watched all the goings on in Frontierland while relaxing. It was very nice.

What will they do with the riverboat? Maybe get rid of that too. Maybe it will be replaced with a pirate ship. :confused3
