Doesn't artificial insemination sometimes result in more than one fetus? He would probably want to have than condition taken care of privately so that someone doesn't leak the information and cast doubts, once again, on the manner in which this child was conceived and Tom's sexual orientation.

Well, there is a small, fervent group of people who don't believe she is pregnant at all, and a private sonogram machine doesn't exactly do much to dispel those suspicions. They believe she is wearing a prosthetic belly.

I don't personally believe that (I beileve it was more likely the work of a turkey baster), but it's just interesting that now people would believe he'd do anything at all...including something as outrageous as faking a pregnancy.


What's weird is that he fired his sister publicist (moved her over to do some of his charity work) and hired a proper publicist. Obviously, he knows his image is awful right now and wants it to change. Now this story comes out and makes headlines. Way to go, Tom! LOL!

I don't see a problem with it... If I was a celebrity and had 200,000 to spend on a sonogram machine, I'd buy one. Of course, I wouldn't use it myself, but none of us really know that Tom & Katie are using it by themselves. They could have hired a private doctor. It's all speculation at this point.

With all due respect, why on earth would anybody want to spend $200k for an instrument that should be used only once? No matter who is operating it, SOP for a non-complicated pregnancy is one sonogram at 19 weeks to check on the baby's progress.

Poor Katie better not be having any postpartum blues after she delivers too. She and that baby will be in big trouble if she does.

I don't think there are risks to having multiple sonograms. They operate on sound waves (according to my doctor) and are not like an x-ray, which is a common misconception. I had two high risk pregnancies and multiple ultrasounds on my babies and it didn't affect either one. My daughter had tons of them and we even got to have the 3D kind-it was really neat to see her in my tummy like that. I could see her facial features and everything.

I used to be a fan of Tom Cruise's too, but now I'm completely not. I would go out of my way to not see his movies and after seeing his antics on Oprah, he doesn't impress me at all.

AND-as someone who's suffered from post partum depression, I think he should keep his big yap shut. I don't know why celebrities think they can get on t.v. and spout off about stuff they know nothing about. Please leave that up to the professionals-who actually do know about the history of their specialized fields.

My neighbor had to have several sonograms with her pregnancy 3 years ago. The doctor said that there were studies in progress looking at the effects of the sound waves on the baby's hearing. The little girl does have a 60% hearing loss in one ear. The other ear is fine. The hearing loss may have been from the sonogram or something else.

Mrs. and Mr. Holmes, go get your daughter, now!

Not that I am a Tom Cruise fan, but isn't it entirely possible that he has purchased this machine so Katie does not have to visit a doctor's office? He can arrange to have a private doctor come in to do the tests and by doing so, it will cut down the number of people who have access to her medical information, people who could leak said information to the press?

On that same note. He may not WANT her to go out. like as in posessive. Not wanting other people to see her?

Personally, I just think it is obscene that he can just go out and buy this. It is another example of what happens when you have too much money. So what, if he gives it to a hospital; it doesn't make me think any more of him. 200K is obviously a drop in the ocean to him. Ugh, he needs a reality check.

No one knows for sure, it's just speculation since he has been married twice before and neither had any children from him........although Mimi Rogers did go on and have children with her next husband, Nicole "supposedly" miscarried and the reason "supposedly" for their divorce that she had cheated on him and "supposedly" the miscarried baby was not his.......his whole life seems to be speculated, as also the rumors of him being gay........me personally I think it is kinda odd that this one did get pregnant! I suppose the next rumor will be that the baby was artificially inseminated by RL Hubbard ? (I think that was his name....the scientology founder??) Who really knows it's just that Tom has been more than a little strange lately........I just hope poor Katie doesn't have post partum after the birth!!

No, artificial insemination doesn't affect the number of fetuses.
There may be more fetuses if she had in vitro fertilization - where the eggs and sperm are united outside of the body. The fetilized eggs are put back into the woman's body.

I thought I read somewhere that Nicole didn't want to have a biological child, that is why they adopted. Something about she didn't want to have to deal with the physical affects that a pregancy has on one's body.

And I felt bad for him and thought Nicole was cheating on him. Now I realize that if he was half as nuts with her as he is with Katie then I realize why their marriage fell apart. I heard on the radio recently (I know, maybe not 100% reliable but they were reading a press release, that said Tom had set down "rules" for Katie.

1. She has a curfew. I know it is important to get sleep when you are a pregnant but a CURFEW for a grown woman by a man who hasn't married her yet. What's that about? Not that even if you are married I think the word "curfew" should ever be used.

2. She can only have organic foods. She seems to love ice cream but it can only be organic. Again, good nutrition for a pregnant woman is important BUT for someone else to tell you what you can and cannot eat?

3. He has to approve her attire. He wants her to go little to no makeup and very matronly maternity clothes. Personally, I don't care for some of the B. Spears lookalike maternity clothes, so I can somewhat understand but again, it's him controlling her.

4. This one REALLY made me scream. He doesn't want her to talk to the baby for I forget how long so I don't want to quote improperly but for quite a while after the child's birth because,"the baby needs to realize his own identity without being influenced by another person (including Katie.) Oh my gosh! All of you who are mothers and fathers KNOW how your baby reacts to their mama and to voices.

There were some others but after hearing the last one I switched stations.

Katie will regret this one day and realize I'm afraid she's being used as some sort of "pawn" in Tom's sick little chess game.
