:confused3Renting from Alamo next week. I believe there is a new toll system since we have been in Orlando last. Can anyone helps me out? We don't pay at the toll booth anymore????

They still have cash lanes from the airport to Disney

At some toll plazas you must go down what looks like an exit ramp on the right if you are going to pay tolls using cash (coins). Watch the signs for upcoming toll plazas. Most car rental companies have an option (extra cost over and above the tolls themselves) to pay tolls electronically without stopping.

We had a pamphlet in our car that said you could use their service for $2 a day, up to a maximum of $6 per rental period plus the tolls. We didn't use it as we had purchased a temporary transponder. I think you save 25% on the tolls with this. It was a sunpass mini.

Yes, you save 25% with the transponder, but, only on SunPass roads, not the ones serviced by E pass.

We use the in-car sunpass. We feel that the daily fee is worth the time we save by not stopping at the tollbooths and we don't like worrying about having exact change that's needed at some of the exits which are unmanned.

What company has that? Just curious.

I've got a reservation with Dollar and can only find a page on the website that says they offer the transponder service and it lists Orlando as one of the participating cities.....it doesn't say how much it is or if it's a mandatory charge.

Anyone know how it works with Dollar? :confused3 I'd really like to know the details before I get to the counter.

different rental companies handle this different and the $$ varies widely

read ALL of https://www.sunpass.com/rentalcar

I just read through the info in the link...that pretty much answers my questions. I'm renting for 13 days so that's a pretty heffty charge. I have no problem with carrying change to pay tolls....is it for sure that you can still pay cash?

Local people have posted that you can still pay cash in the Orlando area.

Wow - Dollar's toll program does seem pretty expensive. We use Avis. We pay the $14.95 monthly maximum to use the sunpass plus any tolls we incur - it comes out to about $20-25 total for us.

That 14.95 is pretty hefty also. It would be less expensive for you to purchase one directly from Sun pass at 4.99 and replenish it yourself. https://www.sunpass.com/index

Yes, it is for sure you can still pay cash. I have that option every single day, but, opt to use my transponder.

We'd rather not have to deal with affixing it to the windshield of a rental, having to remember to remove it when we leave & transferring any remaining funds to a new account the following year. The $10 difference is worth the convenience for us to use the car rental agency's transponder.

Another thought, buy the portable transponder. 25.00 and that you can take with you and the funds stay on the account forever.

We've thought about that but bringing it to FL and remembering to take it out of the rental car when we leave are extra steps we'd rather not deal with. I'm always looking for the best deal & the best way to save money, but sometimes convenience outweighs saving money.
