Ok, still planning for our trip...trying to get as much info as possible. We're driving from Chicago, and will get on I-75 from Indiana maybe? Wherever it is up there. SO, throughout the states, does anyone know the amount of tolls, how many, and what the speed limits are per state? Or is there a website with this info? Thanks!

I might be wrong, but I don't think there are any tolls on 75...

If your coming from IL, you'll probibly take I-80 east untill you hit 75 south in Toledo, Ohio.

The speed limits in each state vary from 65-70 mph..

Whatever you do DONT speed in Ohio, very very strick highway patrolman!!

I don't believe you will hit any tolls on 75 at all. Also be careful when you get to Macon Georgia and the Ga/Fla line (Valdosta Ga area). State patrol is usually out

No tolls on I-75 from Detroit to where you get on the toll road in Florida. Take heed of the advice on state patrols ... they are always out in the places listed above. When going through Atlanta, do NOT take the bypass, but rather go right downtown using the HOV lane to the far left. Often traffice is at a dead stop and the HOV lane is moving quickly. The only requirement to use it is that you have at least 2 people in your vehicle. As well, coming into Macon, DO take the 475 bypass -- much faster than going through Macon.

Get a copy of Dave Hunter's "Along I-75" ... it's a great book with lots of info and some fun reading about the places you're travelling through.

to get to WDW you need to come off I75 and get on Florida Turnpike then the toll is either $1.25 or $2.25(?) - depending upon where you get off.

I think I know the speed limits from Kentucky down.

KY: 65
TN: 70
GA: 70 or 75 (not sure)
FL: 70

The above poster is correct in that the Florida Turnpike is a toll road, but it's as good a quality road as I-75. There are no toll sections of I-75 from Cincinnati all the way down to where you have to turn on to the Florida Turnpike.

Thanks for all the info! Coming from Chicago area, we're so used to tolls, we just assumed there would be some, but thats great that there isn't. And the I-75 book...I just ordered it! Looks like it will be really helpful, thanks.

Also, keep in mind that getting I-75 that far north (Toledo) may be a bit of a jog out of your way. It may be easier in your case to come down I-65 to Indianapolis, then take I-74 over to I-75 at Cincinnati. That would be more of a gradual southeasterly trek to get to I-75, so that you're always headed south, rather than almost due east to get to Toledo. Make sure you stop lots of times in Kentucky. We need all the tourism $$$ we can get. ;)

I believe we will be taking I-65 thur Indianapolis, thanks. All the maps seem to have us going that way. We'll aim for lunch in Kentucky...or at least a snack. :sunny:

I've found that the best route, if coming through Indianapolis, is to take I-65S to Nashville, then I-24E to Chattanooga, and then I-75S from there to Florida and then follow the directions to your destination...At least this is the route we are taking in a couple of weeks!

Yes thats the route we take and we drive down about once a year. The speed limit is 65(55 when hitting the bigger cities)in ILL. IN. and KY. When you get to Tenn. you start to see 70mph. Minnie824, There are no tolls once you leave Illinois until you get to the Florida turnpike.Something I can't figure out we (I'm also from Chicagoland) pay tolls and our roads are not that great, but when you get on those roads to Florida, you will see they are way better then ours with no tolls?

Everyyear for Thanksgiving we drive to Chicago and we very seldom see police. Earlier this year we drove to Ohio and saw very few police I went 90-95 most of the way home. Becareful in Perry Ga. most of the tickets I have gotten has been there. There are no toll roads till you've been Fl. for a while. Oh yeah, I'm in Atlanta

Chicago does have bad roads, but NOTHING even comes close to Detroit, and the state of Michigan for that fact!!

Remember to mind your speed in Ohio we call it Slow-hio where I'm from. Also be sure to fuel up in Georgia the fuel is less before you get to Valdosta and into Florida. :)
