Tolls for non florida resident / visitor toll pass

The Visitor Toll Pass, which the Expressway Authority quietly rolled out in 2019, is a free tag that hangs from a car's rearview mirror. A driver can pick up the tag right after landing, and it's automatically activated as their rental car leaves the parking structure. A credit card number, the car's license plate number, and the day when the trip will be over (a maximum of 90 days) must be provided. And that's it.
When Visitor Toll Pass holders drive through a toll collection gantry, Florida's system matches the tag dangling from the mirror with the license plate—meaning the tag is useless if it's stolen or lost—and directly charges the driver's credit card account.
The pass does the job of a transponder, with no service fees. It works in any cashless toll lane on any road in the state, even if there happens to be a manned lane for cash payments.
In fact, with the pass, all tolls are billed at a slightly lower rate than the normal charge. The booth closest to Walt Disney World on State Road 417, for example, is cashless and catches many tourists unaware, but with the Visitor Toll Pass, the fee is billed as $1.40 instead of the usual $1.50.

To avoid being double-billed, you must decline your rental car contract's toll program. You can do that without guilt—the Visitor Toll Pass is the better deal.

When your trip is over, simply toss the tag into one of the collection bins located in the corridors leading from the rental car parking lots into the airport (you'll find their locations marked on this map). Forgetting to return the pass will cost you $10—still cheaper than what you'd pay to use the rental car company's system for more than two days.
For most people, the hardest part of the program will be believing it's for real.
I've tried it out—it's real, with no hidden fees, and the toll charges posted to my credit card within about three days of the end of my trip.

You don't have to plan weeks ahead for this. In the beginning, you had to sign up in person with staff at the airport, but in late May of 2021, Visitor Toll Pass rolled out two free apps (Google Play, iOS for iPhone) that you download to sign up and register a payment method.

When you arrive at Orlando's main airport (which has free Wi-Fi), head to the vending machine on Level 1 of Terminal A, by the rental car counters, and the app will tell you how to obtain your tag from it.

As you leave town, just drop the tag in one of the boxes at the airport (pictured above).

This is one tourism development that leaves me ecstatic.
Don't let the car renters keep ripping you off.

Thanks - I didn’t realize this was still available. We bought our SunPass several years ago when we began driving to Orlando several times a year, but it’s nice to know we could use this when we fly if I forget to pack the SunPass 😊 !

Still easier to just pay at the cashier booths or coin machines, especially if one is just visiting on vacation.. The E-Pass/Sun-Pass systems were originally designed for Floridians and locals who live in the area.

We drive down the Turnpike from 75 and then 429 to Western Way. We find that maintaining speed through those toll gates is so much better than having to pull up and stop to pay, and we don’t have to worry about bringing a bag of quarters as we used to. Maybe they designed the systems for residents - but we actually bought our first SunPass sticker in one of the Florida rest areas east of Pensacola, so they’re actively promoting them to travelers!
(Edited to correct highway #.)

I'm not sure that this is actually available at this time. The website still says "coming soon", and "undergoing maintenance". Frommers may have jumped the gun.

CFX did say that they hoped to have it available again by sometime this month, but I wouldn't count on it until somebody verifies that they've actually been able to get one.

Also it pretty much just became moot for a large number of people from the Eastern US. As of last Friday, EZ Pass is good on all roads in FL. While I would have jumped at the chance to have the visitor toll tag last year, this year I'll just bring my IPass.

When was the last time you were actually on a toll road in central FL? Cashier booths and coin machines are practically nonexistent now. They're transitioning to toll-by-plate.
