Toll Warning

Maybe no one needs this warning but I could have used it. I rented a car at MCO to use at WDW in January and followed the Mapquest directions to AKL. It sent me on 417 to Osprey Pkwy (a very direct and good route). There are a couple of tolls on the way on 417, all $1 each, all with manned booths. Then when you get off on Osprey Pkwy (one of 2 Disney exits) it is $.50 with only a Sun Pass lane and an unmanned, coin only lane. I am currently waiting for my ticket, as I had no change. I usually travel without it so I don't have to worry about setting off the detector at the airport, and I had only remembered the $1 tolls from previous trips.
So, I thought I'd post to save someone a future ticket.

Unless your a repeat offender of the unamnned toll escapade, you will not get a ticket.

Also, small change will not usually set off the metal detectors.

Unrelated toll incident: A few months ago, the 'last exit' before a toll booth in Massachusetts was closed suddenly for structural reasons. A number of drivers apparently don't listen to traffic reports (this was widely reported) AND don't carry any cash - they were trying to back down the on ramp at this location!

Here's an excerpt:

1. I violated a toll lane, what should I do?
If this is your first violation, you should do nothing. The Expressway Authority understands that customers may on occasion enter a toll plaza without proper funds. The Authority only prosecutes customers who accumulate more than three violations. There is no way to delete a violation from your record once it has occurred.

2. I went through an E-PASS lane by accident, what should I do?
If this is your first accidental violation, you should do nothing. The Expressway Authority understands that customers may on occasion confuse the lanes and not have proper funds or equipment for them. The Authority only prosecutes customers who accumulate more than three violations.

Are you referring to Osceola Parkway? You will be fine without paying the toll.

Thanks for the feedback. I was sure this was a deliberate plot by the FDOT (or whoever administers tolls in FL) to generate revenue :) . Good to know you get one free pass.

I have had to run a couple of those over the years... Personally it's just stupid not to have something that a least will take a dollar and dispense change!

Don't know if I should share this or not  ...but one night pretty late I threw a dollar in the unmanned booth you guys are talking about! I was all flustered not sure what to do with no change...in hindsight I probably jammed it up for future motorists (or a person in an SUV or truck came along and could see my dollar laying in there and it was their lucky day!)

In some states it is illegal to get out of your car at a toll booth let alone pick up anything, although the police may be lenient if you just say you missed the basket and you only picked up a few coins and threw them all into the basket.

The three-violation leeway can quickly get exceeded when it is three different people using the same rental car at different times.

I suppose you might get leniency if the "last exit before toll" is closed and you fail to pay at the toll booth, but only in a lane with an attendant to whom you explained the situation.

i was driving through new jersey once and I went through the e-zpass lane and I didn't have e-z pass. About 3 weeks later I got a letter in the mail with a picture of my liscence plate and I had to send them a check for 40 cents. It cost them 37 cents to mail me the letter. :rotfl2: I thought that was absolutly crazy.
