Has anyone been recently and can tell us whether it's still an option to pay with cash or are all payments now electronic (Sunpass)?

Read recently that cash is no longer an option across all of Florida. Is that true?

No there are still cash tolls, although not many of them as there are card ones at each toll area

Are you saying that Florida's Turnpike does not accept cash? We are planning on driving up from Miami in August.

Did a lot of milage in Feb, Boggy creek boat ride, Clearwater, St Augustine, Port Canaveral & Titusville. Cash at all tolls no problem.
Only road I know that is turning to Sunpass only is Florida's Turnpike http://www.floridasturnpike.com/tools_paytoll.cfm which is this section http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homestead_Extension_of_Florida's_Turnpike
Maybe other parts but I have never come across anywhere.

Thanks Wayne. We did a lot of miles last year and plan to do lots this Easter again, so were wondering whether what we had read was true.

I have never driven down that way but if you read the links I posted it looks to me like Key West to Miami is no cash, electronic only.

DH has done some research on Sunpass and hire cars and there's quite a difference in the charges made by the various hirecar companies for it.

Something to consider when pricing for future trips as they turn more and more to 'open road tolling'.

Sorry Wayne, we will be driving up to Old Key West in August. Do you know if this part of the Turnpike will be accepting cash?

Hopefully someone will post who has done that route recently but as far as I know its only south of Miami.

Have a look here:

The link to project maps shows the areas affected around Miami.

We're driving down from Orlando to MIA in the summer and are looking at US27 or I95 to avoid the tolls, as we are renting with Budget, and they seem to want to charge for the use of the electronic tag for the entire time of the rental, even though we would only activate and use it on the last day.
