Help!

I just remembered that when I went to Legoland, I hit a toll road on the way. There was only one lane, unmanned and I didn't have any change. I took one of the little envelopes to send in the toll and promptly forgot all about it!

Where in the world to I begin to look to deal with that? It wasn't much money but I don't want to leave it undealt with. I've looked and can't find the darn envelope anywhere. The whole thing completely slipped my mind.

Was it your own car or a rental? If rental it will have been paid and charged to you. If yours they will send you something in the mail. Out of state?

they may not even bother sending you anything.

dont worry about it. if a bill comes pay it. it wont be a "fine" or anything major.

be careful because some of the rental car companies also charge a pretty good fine for it.

It was an Alamo rental through the car care center. I can't find any way to pay it online without a notice so I'm going to call the car care center as soon as I get the chance.

from Sunpass Rental car page https://www.sunpass.com/rentalcar

Alamo: $2.95 fee per rental day (24 hr. interval) that customer incurs tolls, plus tolls (at posted cash/TOLL-BY-PLATE rates); Participation is automatic.

Opt-in decision is made when the driver elects to use EXPRESS, SunPass ONLY, E-PASS ONLY or LeeWay ONLY lanes.

Nothing to decide at time of rental.

The system fell back to 'toll by plate' which is the backup for a non-functioning or missing transponder and sends the bill to the registered owner - ALAMO - they will or already have adjusted your charge for one day and the one toll.

Alamo, National and Enterprise work this way .... it is NOT the same for ALL rental companies. You lucked out. Some charge a $25 PER TOLL fee!

A few years back our GPS got us horribly lost trying to get to Raglan Road, we ended up on a toll road with no change at all in a rental. We just blew past the collection point, we had little choice, never heard a thing about it later.

if it is a FLORIDA Toll road

here's the info http://www.floridasturnpike.com/tools_tollviolations.cfm

I stress FLORIDA, because IN Florida, cities can have their OWN toll roads (ain't Florida neat? The rules are different here!) In Miami, Tampa and Orlando, some of the toll roads are not STATE but locally owned so the procedures CAN differ . . .

*******

I try to provide simple answers to questions but when others split hairs . . .

Check your credit card statement for the card you used for the rental. You will probably find a charge there for the $2.95 daily fee plus the cost of the toll.

And since the rental company gets a bill once a month from the state (as I understand the system works) it could be a couple of weeks before this charge gets passed down to you.

I would not even try to pay cash or directly to the toll authority at this time as I'm pretty sure IF you are going to see a bill it is already working its way thru the ALAMO system and would not be stopped if you pay the state directly . . .

The same thing happened to us a few years ago, not once but twice with a Dollar car rental. We did get charged a $25.00 penalty from Dollar. We promptly bought a Sun Pass the next time we went to WDW.
