Hi - leaving on Friday and just wondering if it's worth it to try the Toll Road 429 in Florida? We're driving from Canada and will be taking I-95 to I-4. Has anyone done this? Did it save time? Where did you get on to it from I-4? Thanks in advance!

We're staying at FW but for the first time at a campsite!

You would be going out of your way, besides paying the toll. 429 brings you into WDW from the West side off of the Turnpike.

Good to know so looks like we're sticking with I-4! See you guys on Saturday and here's hoping it's hot and sunny (I can hope right?).

I love 429, but then I come in from I-75. Unfortunately, the I-95 folks have no other route unless you want to hop over to I-75 at some point further North.

Just remember that if it's 60 the "natives" will be complaining.. I was in shorts 2 weeks ago since that was a h--- of alot better than the 25 we left in Ohio.

I live just outside of Daytona Beach, and when we go to Ft. Wilderness/Disney we take I-95 south to the Beachline Expressway (SR528) (near Cocoa), it is a toll road, then pick up the 417 (the Greenway / also a toll road). You can always take I-95 to I-4 then pick up the 417 in Sanford, FL if you prefer. You will miss all that traffic on I-4, which takes you right through Downtown Orlando and is very heavy in traffic. The 417 will take you right to the Disney exit. They have 2 exits for Disney from the 417 and you can take either exit, but we take the 1st one, which is exit 6 for the Downtown Disney area/Epcot. It actually takes you to the same place as the other exit, but it is a lot quicker taking Exit 6. I think the toll roads are well worth it, and they don't have near the amount of traffic that I-4 has. There really is no difference in time going I-95 to the toll roads or I-4, unless you get stuck in traffic due to an accident in Orlando on I-4 and that is a daily occurance.

KimIce, any idea how much the tolls are when getting on the 417 at Sanford? I have thought about taking this route on other trips, but this time we'll be coming through Orlando around 3-4 on a Friday afternoon and I'm guessing the traffic will be heavy. We are not pulling the trailer this trip.

Thanks.

This is exactly what we're looking for since we drive straight through from Canada and by the end we really would like to avoid all of the Orlando traffic and just get to the fort (and a shower). Thanks so much!

I'm not 100% sure how much the tolls are, I have a toll transponder and just go right through the toll lane. I did just pull up an old statement, and it looks like we paid $2.25 for the tolls at each toll booth on the 417, that was with pulling our 5th Wheel. We are going to FW next week I can tell you exactly what they are when we get back the following week if you like (unless I can connect to the internet before then). Yes, you will definitely want to avoid Orlando at that time of day, the traffic will be bad.

You are welcome! We love this route. It takes you around Orlando, for I-4 is horrible.

Like I said earlier, when you are on the 417 get off at Exit 6 (Downtown Disney/Epcot area), then follow the signs to Disney/Magic Kingdom. It is much shorter then getting off at the 2nd exit that they have listed for the Magic Kingdom.

i have driven from cocoa beach several times (528 to 417 ) its a nice ride and traffic flows well , if i remember correctly the tolls are just under $5 each way. i stay off of I-4 at all costs. i always take a roll of quarters so i am not sure of the exact amount. steve

You're too far east to take advantage of the 429. I-95 to I-4 is your best bet. If you come down I-75, then you want to cut east to the Fla. Trpk, to the 429 & then to I-4. Yeah - the Trpk & 429 are toll roads, but what price can you put on getting to the Fort sooner rather than later??:thumbsup2
