Told my transfer between my own contracts=my one annual transfer

I'd heard that DVC will often allow a person to do a self-transfer, and then also receive an outside transfer on the same account. Well, today I was told flatly that I wouldn't be allowed to do this. I had transferred a very small number of points from my BWV contract (different UY) to my HHI contract about a month ago. Now I'm looking for an outside transfer to my HHI contract and the Member Services rep said no. When I questioned her (nicely) about it, she asked a supervisor who said no.

Well crumbs . . .

With DVC, they are nothing if not inconsistent.

I had already transferred points to another member last year and called about making a reservation at HH at 11 months for a GV. I had enough points, but they were from two different memberships so they just transferred points from one into the membership that had already used the transfer for 2013. I asked about the one-transfer rule and was told that will accommodate members transferring points from one or their memberships into another. I had stranded 6 points in one of the HH memberships and they told me I could transfer those at a later date if I wanted (which would have made for 3 transfers into one membership).

The written policy certainly allows only one transfer into or out of a membership each Use Year, but MS has been granting additional transfers between personally ownder memberships for years. Sorry you got a MS rep who was unable/unwilling to do so.

I'd call again tomorrow and see if you get a rep who can find a different result.

Good Luck! :)

Not really understanding why the OP is transferring within their own contracts. Are they the same master contract? Or are there different ownership or use years perhaps?

The OP's contracts are different use years, which automatically makes it a different membership number/master contract. Even if it is a small add-on type contract purchased through resale. You can have different resorts under the same membership/contract number, but they must be the same use year.

Yes, that's correct. Different use years. When I buy my next contract, I will buy one with the same UY as my HH contract. It really hasn't been an issue for me to manage the two use years until now, but I could see how it could streamline things.

My problem is, I bought this contract thinking I would be taking my daughter to WDW and staying in a studio every May for her birthday. Now my husband has decided Disney's not so bad, and he wants to tag along. And then my in-laws invited themselves (which is fine, but that is what happened). By squeezing every last point out of my contract, I was able to book a 2 bedroom for my husband, myself, my daughter, and friend, but I wanted to book a studio for my in-laws with transferred points. And that looks to be out of the question now. I think I may just need to rent on their behalf. I was hoping to be the one to control the reservation, though, so I'm a little bummed. I'll try again tomorrow and see what happens.

I might also add that one of the reps today did me a solid. I had 6 points that had been banked into the 2013 UY from the previous owner. Our reservation isn't until May 2014, and it's an April UY. Through some voodoo, she managed to get those points applied to my booking, giving me exactly enough points for that 2 bedroom. Like I said, I just need to figure out how to best facilitate my in-laws. I was a little surprised, because I'd read on the boards that the unofficial policy was to allow unofficial transfers within one's own memberships. But you know, maybe something's changed.

was able to do the transfer today!
If you had used a transfer to or from that exact contract and UY; they should not have allowed you to do an arms length transfer. The way it's supposed to work is that if you had done the arms length transfer first, they should have allowed you to do an internal transfer on a case by case basis if truly needed. If I understand you correctly (internal transfer THEN transfer from outside to same contract and UY) you got very lucky. But as I've said many times and Doc did as well, Disney is nothing if not inconsistent.

I needed to make a transfer to complete a reservation for Feb. a couple of days ago. The CM told me I could transfer between my own contracts as often as I want. One contract is OKW with title in both my and my husband's name and the other is SSR in my name only. Both have an August UY. At any rate it worked out great in that I was able to make the desired reservation and have all my remaining 2014 points in one contract. Sure wish I could request her again the next time I have to call MS.

When needed they will normally allow multiple transfers for a single owner between their separate master contracts.

This is the first time I heard this. I learn something new today.... Thank you.

When needed and in this situation, they will allow transfer of banked points on a case by case basis.
