My husband and I were happily surprised this Saturday to see that Teppan Edo and Tokyo Dining at the Japan pavillion in Epcot were open for business! They were not accepting reservations but taking people "first come, first served" as they arrived. At 6:30 pm on Saturday, there was an hour wait for Tepan Edo (where they cook at your table) and a little-to-no wait at Tokyo Dining, which is what we chose.

Tokyo Dining is the new restaurant at the front of the pavillion. It's very sleek and modern and the views of the park are outstanding!! This will be the new place to score a table for Illuminations. The menu is mainly sushi or tempura. I got the sushi sampler, which was very fresh and yummy. If I remember correctly it had tuna, salmon, yellowtail, some other whitefish, roe, shrimp, and a couple of California roll pieces. My husband got the Shibuya, which was chicken and shrimp tempura. He loved his too!

Overall, we really enjoyed our experience at Tokyo Dining. The wait staff was super, the decor is a great update, and the food was very good. We'll definitely be going back!

would you consider this a place for a family to eat (all adults)? are there any "sides" like salad or do you just get tempura on your plate (are these "meal-sized" portions?...is this mainly walk-in or are reservations necessary?
thanks!

Thanks for the review. I am looking forward to a meal here, glad to see you had a positive experience.
I tried making an ADR last week and was told that they are only accepting them for Teppan Edo at this time. Do you know if they are participating in the DDP?

Enjoyed reading your review, thanks for posting.

thanks for the great review of tokyo dining

we loved it when it used to be matsunoma lounge - where we'd go for sushi in the afternoon, and enjoy the view

Thanks for posting your review. Great to hear positive things about it. I am looking forward to trying it.

Here is a link to the DIS menus for Tokyo Dining

Here is Teppan Edo menu link

wdwthanksgiving - I would consider this a family restaurant. They had a children's menu and their meals came in a plate shaped like an airplane! My husband and I were jealous ;) We were two adults though and the atmosphere was relaxing and romantic with the view as well. To answer your other question, my husband's tempura came with a seaweed salad (it was yummy) and rice.

They did not accept our Disney Dining Experience card, which was the only bummer!

Thanks for the reviews! However I find it interesting that you said TeppanEdo is the hibatchi style cooking because allearsnet shows the menu as the sushi menu?

I called to make an ADR for Tokyo Dining and the CMs at Disney Dining Res. never heard of Tokyo Dining...only TeppanEdo which they said has the hibatchi type food. Apparently they may not take ADRs for the sushi area? It's a little confusing. May need to send and email to allearsnet. We did want the hibatchi dining so it seems that is what we got.

Tepan Edo offers sushi as well as the hibatchi style cooking, just like before. It is my understanding that Tokyo Dining will always be first come, first served (no reservations).

is honored at the new Japanese dining establishments?
We have ADR's for a lunch in March....and we are conflicted between the DDP, the DDE and the Annual Pass discounts.
:confused3 :confused3 :confused3 :confused3 :confused3 = 5 confused Baders

Now Im confused....I called Disney Dinning and was able to make a reservation for December..(I think someone posted that you couldn't make reservations) So i just wanted to let you all know you can.. But I was told it was part of DDP and that it would count towards 1 sit down service. (but I think someone also posted that they didnt accept the plan.) I will have to recheck that before we go.

I was told that they just started taking reservations for this restaurant last week. I was also told it's 1 TS credit. That post stating that ADR's weren't being taken was probably posted before they started booking.

We just got an ADR for New Year's Eve....that was pretty much all that was available for our party of 7 this late in the planning game!! I didn't ask if they took the DDP; I sure hope so!!
