Tokyo Dining or Morimoto Asia

My adult son and I will be visiting in January and I’m trying to decide between these 2 restaurants. My son really likes sushi, Japanese cuisine and Korean food. I just moved our resort reservation to YC and we have park hoppers so Tokyo Dining would be pretty easy to get to, but I don’t hear much about it. We had spent 3 weeks in Japan and Korea in 2019, and had some pretty amazing meals there so I was really hoping that Takumi Tei was going to be opening soon but it sounds like that won’t happen by January. I’ve looked at both menus, but never dined at either so if anyone has dined at both and can give an opinion on food, atmosphere and authenticity I would be grateful.

TIA.

I enjoy both eateries and for different reasons. Morimoto Asia is more of a contemporary fusion restaurant that explores the cuisines of the continent. Should it be offering the sushi and sashimi tower or late night sushi specials upstairs, you are in for a treat. Check the menus via its website to see what is available at this time as I’m sure the global freight slowdown will effect what is on the menu. Great place to eat, drink and converse in amazing surrounding.

TD is newly reopened since the pandemic began and has gone through major menu changes since the initial opening of TT. Still has sushi but more limited in scope. Overall a more traditional setting with beautiful views of the lake. Ignore the cakes of the dessert menu; very pretty but merely sweet. Having said that I’m tempted to try the tiramisu the next time I’m there.

Of the two, Morimoto Asia, hands-down. If you would just like sushi, I would recommend walking over to the Swan and eating at Kimono's which, arguably, has the best sushi on property.

Morimoto for us. Prior to Covid, we thought the TD experience was a diamond tin the rough - not much fanfare, but excellent food and service. As mentioned above, the menu changes do not currently seem to be for the better. I hope TD comes all the way back at some point - loved that as a nice little getaway lunch or dinner. Morimoto's is almost a mst-do for us on a trip.

Thank you all. I’m going to stick with my original plan and try to get a later dinner ADR for Morimoto for one of our shorter park days. I do hope TD will expand their menu at some point as I would still like to try it, along with Takumi Tei.

Kimono’s might be a good option for our arrival day as I believe they don’t take reservations. We could walk over around 5:30 and see how long the wait might be.
