As some of you may recall I purchased a Tokina 11- 16mm for my Sony A550. I was having a blast with it until I started to take photos of the night time parade at Disney. The camera locked up stating "no lens". I had trouble getting the camera to want to take shots as the floats went by in front of me. I was so dissapointed. Can anyone give me some suggestiosn on what I could do as far as adjustments on the camera itself to help.

Or is there a lens out there that would help with these type of closer shots but yet works great for night parades.

I can't think of any reason why nighttime would cause it to not be able to take a photo or read the lens - it would seem that it must have been bad luck or coincidental to the time...usually, when this type of thing happens, it's the contacts between the body and lens that are dirty, interfered with, not connecting well, etc. I'd say first and foremost would be to try cleaning the little contacts on both the camera body and the lens and see if you still get such problems.

I haven't yet had any of my 7 lenses have any contact issues or read issues with my A550 in over a year...but I do keep them regularly cleaned and clean my camera regularly as well. Otherwise, I have no idea what it could be!

What do you use to clean the contacts and your camera? I posted a similar question earlier today and it turns out, it was dirty contacts. I would love to stay on top of this so it doesn't happen again. Thanks!

Docarino, I use rubbing alcohol and a Q-tip.

Some use a pencil eraser; if you go that route, be sure to hold the lens so that any bit of eraser fall on the floor and not on the lens. A product I've heard of that lots of photographers swear by is called DeoxIT. It is specifically made to clean electrical contacts. There are numerous varieties and delivery systems, but the following looks like it would be most useful for this particular purpose: http://www.amazon.com/DeoxIT®-Pen-N...7H82/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1290029408&sr=8-6

For the contacts, I also go with the rubbing alcohol and qtips. For the exterior of the camera, I use a lightly moistened microfiber cloth. I also use clean microfiber cloths for the lens glass on both sides, the LCD, and the viewfinder. The sensor inside I stick with bulb blowers first, sensor brushes second if the first doesn't work, and ultimately a wet swab if it's really dirty and isn't coming off.

Thanks for the cleaning advice. My camera/lenses are currently being cleaned at the repair shop because I didn't know what was wrong but after the creepy experience I had there (see thread below Canon 50d questions), I am in no hurry to return there!

To the OP- that is pretty much the same error message I was getting with my camera. If I detached and reattached the lens, it would work again but that message was happening more and more frequently.
