I want to pack as light as possible (because I'm the one who shlepps the cases :rolleyes1 ) so I was thinking of only taking the minimum amount of shower gel, sun cream etc and stocking up when I get to Orlando. We will have a car, so we can find a drugstore, but I was wondering:

a: will it be more expensive to buy these things in Orlando, and
b: if anyone has any tips on what to buy (because I assume that I won't be able to get exactly the same things out there).

Thanks.

Most stuff is cheeper to buy in the US than it is here. Just stock up in a supermarket and buy only what you will need while you are there...If you family use 3 different types of shampoo Im sure they can manage with just 1 for a couple of weeks....then when you leave just leave the stuff there as it will make your suitcase lighter and make room for more souveniers!!

I agree totally. I got V05 shampoo and conditioner for 99 cents per bottle and some really nice St Ives Shower Cremes which were '2 for 1' at only $2.99 or so. Was planning on leaving them over there - but there was so much of them left at the end of the holiday, we just put them in the cases on brought them home. I'm not sre if they are more concentrated than the fomulas we have over here - but they have lasted ages.

Try Walgreens - it's a chemists a bit like Boots with many of them open 24 hours.

You will have your pick of products - a lot you will recognise from back home. As far as suncreams go, I haven't really tried them but many well known brands. Did get an No-Ads one once which was fine :)

I never take much with us either - works out cheaper to buy it there :goodvibes

Publix supermarket have a good selection of all toileteries, generally around the same price or even slightly cheaper.

Sun cream, we always buy ours in Orlando, the 'buy one get one free' offers you get in the UK are tempting but just prefer to have the extra room in the cases.
Australian Gold is the best product we have used, not very expensive and smells fantastic, also available from Publix.

For the last couple of visits we bought everything from Walmart when we arrived. There is a great selection and you will recognisefamiliar brands and products. I just throw out what we dont use at the end of the holiday.

We always buy 'no ad' sun screen.

I like to buy the Dove brand when I am there - Target is very cheap too!
Just decant what you need into smaller bottles and then buy it when you get there. We didn't do this last time and I had just had my hair coloured and it was like straw by the middle of the holiday so the big bottle of conditioner that would have lasted me a month was gone by day 7! so we ended up going and buying it anyway so might have well have done that to start with!

I must be in the minority but I always take everything with me.We all share DD shampoo and conditoner but take our own showergels and deodorants.I tend to take ones that are 3/4 full then if we haven't used them all I leave them there.:thumbsup2 As staying on disney property again and no car I find it easier to take it all with me.:thumbsup2

On the "no car" note - we are staying at the Sheraton Studio City on I-Drive without a car - I had planned to buy toiletries (mainly suncream) when we arrive as well. Does anyone know if there is a supermarket / drugstore that will be in easy reach for us or would it be easier just to take everything with us?

we have bought in us, the suncream is great, you can apply 'once' and it lasts all day without leaving that horrible white smearing. and it really works a treat.:thumbsup2

I take toiletries with me as I just know that anything I buy out there will have to come home with me - even if there's only a tiny amount left! So I'd be no better off in the luggage stakes ;)

BTW, Sazuburns, thanks for 'teaching' me a new word: I'd never heard maven before, so I looked it up, and now I know :thumbsup2

Lol, I'm glad I'm being ejucayshonul!

Thanks for all your replies - it's helped me make up my mind.

I activly buy tolitries whilst in the US. I get all the stuff we use at home....Head and Shoulders...Pantene ...Dove...etc and it is so much cheaper than here! I even buy toothpaste as there is so much more choice. I dont like mint toothpastes so i buy cinnamon and lemon..and god knows what. i also buy drugs ....over the counter medication such as paracetamol brufen, nytol antihistimines and preps with lignocaine in that you cant buy over the counter here. the FDA is far more proactive than our own pharmaceutical aurthorities..lol I take mini sizes of stuff with me...often usual brands decanted into little bottles (M and S are doing a nice set of little bottles at the mo) and then buy big sizes (plus spare) once we are settled and doing our first walmart run! I also order my contact lenses as soon as i get there...and collect a week later. less than half the cost of here!:cool1:
