My little boy (3 1/2) has been dry during the day since Christmas but, unfortunately, is not dry (or clean) at night. The main problem is the fact that he always has a poo first thing in the morning (usually while he's still asleep or the second he wakes up). I have tried getting up an hour early and waking him up, only to find he has already done it. To make matters worse, he currently has chickenpox and has a few spots on his bottom and groin area, which are getting really infected and nasty now from being in a dirty nappy at night.

Has anyone got any hints/tips on how to either alter his body clock so he does his number 2s during the day (although I suspect this is a long shot as he's been a 'first thing in the morning' type ever since he was about 18 mths)

Either that or any ways to make sure I can 'catch him' before he does it :confused3

It's getting really frustrating :guilty:

Don't know Joh :confused3 luckily DD hasn't been No2 ing in her nappy at night for a while (just good luck!)

Perhaps you could try and encourage him to go in the evening before his bath? Buy him a book to 'read' whilst he sits there - he is a male after all:)

Good Luck

Hi
I guess he is still wearing a nappy in the night??

I know this sounds silly but if you can get to him before he wakes up (if he wakes up at the same time each morning!!). Loosen his nappy by resticking the tags further apart or not sticking it down altogether. Then encourage him to stand up and poo into the nappy whilst holding it (one hand holding the front of the nappy and the other the back) You will probably find he will squat but as the nappy is lower down it wont go all over his bum. Then together empty the contents of the nappy into the loo!!...with lots of clapping etc
I had problems with my DS he would wee on the toilet but not poo, however it was in the daytime so I kept him in pants and when he needed to do a no.2 I trained him to run and get a nappy, he would do it and then empty it into the toilet.....until he was happy to sit on the loo!

Not sure it will work but its worth a go!!

I'm not to sure this will work or even help but it might be worth a try.

Could you not put him in trainer pants during the night(the type that he could pull up and down) and keep a potty next to his bed and incourage him to use that when he wakes.

Thanks for the tips. I don;'t think he has a problem with going on the toilet to do a no 2 (he has done it once when he needed to go during the day). The problem is mainly that I think he is doing it before he even wakes up (although I though only babies did that :confused3 ). I think I will try getting him up an hour early and see if I can catch him early enough, although I'll probably leave it until he's feeling better.

I'll keep you posted as to how it goes ;)

I understand your frustration.. but I wouldnt worry for the time being. Boys can be notoriously difficult to potty train.. he will do it eventually! He needs to understand the feeling that he has, and understand that he needs to wake up.

Personally I find that bribery works a treat as they get older.
My son was not potty trained until he was three and a half.. and I know lots of other people whos boys were the same- however, I do realise that it seems like a life time when you are going through it and trying to make them see sense.
My son wasnt going to do it until HE decided!! Bloody typical man!

If you are worried, i would speak to your health visitor. They do have good ideas and have heard everything before!!!

Joh - can't offer any advice as DS is only 6 months but i do hope you get sorted!!! :teeth:
