My DH, DS (3) and I will be heading to the world in a little over 2 weeks :cool1: . I had read on these boards about the 2 for $1 ponchos at the dollar store. I saw them there a few weeks ago and of course said to myself, "I'll pick those up later". Now, later is here and they don't have any!! I have looked at 3 different dollar stores, and nothing. I ended up buying adult ponchos at Walmart for 87 cents a piece, still a good deal. But, I don't have anything for my son.

My Five Below store did have a few children's ponchos for $5 a piece. How much are they at Disney? Also, I do have a rain cover for my stroller. I'm thinking he may just be fine with that and not need a poncho, unless he wants one for wet rides (which I doubt...that'll just be me!)

So, can a rain cover for the stroller substitute for a poncho? Or am I just obsessing too much and should just let it go!! :rotfl: October is usually pretty dry, right?

Don't really have an answer for you but our stroller came with a rain cover & I plan on taking it. Also we are taking our 3 yr. old who is also named Aidan. We leave in 11 days.:thumbsup2

I wouldn't worry too much about a poncho for your son. The stroller cover will be more beneficial for when you're outside. As for water rides, the good thing about kids is you can change their clothes relatively easy and their clothes are small enough to carry around! Just pack an extra set of clothes to bring with you.

I don't think the kids ponchos at WDW will be small enough for a 3yr old anyway.

Have fun!

Although we did have rain ponchos for my older daughter, she prefered to be under the rain stroller cover when it started to rain.

The ponchos do tend to run a little big for smaller kids...we had to make adjustments by cutting off bottom etc...

I would go with the stroller cover

The stroller cover will work to keep the stroller dry, as well as your son while sitting in it. My DS didn't like sitting in the stroller at that age. Even when it was raining. Rather than forcing him to sit (and having to deal with a very angry 3yo) we just tied up the cheapo ponchos to keep the extra plastic out of the way, and off we went. It looked funny to have a bunch of knots everywhere, but it worked out great for him. He got to keep walking, and we didn't have to fight with him!

I had both and was glad I did.

We were in Disney during tropical storm Fay and when it really rained we made our DD sit in the stroller. The stoller cover also came in handy when we went on rides keeping the stroller dry.

As for the poncho, if it wasn't raining too bad we allowed her to walk and that is where the poncho came in handy. we did have to cut the bottom so she would not trip.

As for the cost in Disney, we paid $8 for a poncho. We ended up having to buy one for my DH after the one we brought from home broke. Not sure if the kids cost less.

as for rain in October. My mom is there now and she said the rain has been crazy in the afternoons, very similar to when we all went in August.

I wouldnt even bother with a poncho for your son if he's got a stroller cover....unless hes like my son and kept poking his head out the side of it just to feel the water hit him!!!!! LOL

What a great name!! I wanted to spell his name the way you did, but DH didn't agree. He wanted "Aden"...which just seems strange to me. So, we compromised :)

Thanks for all the responses,...you guys are great! My DH would think I'm crazy if I asked him some of this detailed/picky stuff :confused3 .

I'd bring both.
We were at WDW in July and it rained a lot.
We had a stroller for our baby, but DS (4) went in it also sometimes.
He wore a poncho sometimes, but the rain cover was amazing. It kept the stroller (and whichever child was in it) totally dry. We got into the habit of just putting the rain cover on the stroller whenever we left it because it rained so often - and who wants to sit in a wet stroller?
We brought cheap ponchos, but then ended up buying a couple there. I think the kids' poncho was about $7 or $8.

And that is why WE do the planning.:thumbsup2

IMHO the rain cover for the stroller is a must - fits well, is ventilated and will keep the stroller and child dry. If the forecast calls for rain then be sure and cover the stroller whenever you leave it for any length of time.

My dd's were never comfortable in a poncho until they were school age. Instead we just used a regular raincoat or water resistant jacket - much more comfortable and just as dry except in the real heavy rain.

I would tend to agree with the posters who said bring both. I know that my DS (now 10) always loved to be in the rain. Still to this day I can't get him to use an umbrella unless I threaten. :lmao: But when he was younger, it wasn't always easy to keep him in the stroller when I wanted him to be there. So, just for sanity sake, I would take both...HTH
