Hi! Our whole family is doing the land and sea on the Disney Dream at the end of July. We are SUPER excited about Pirate Night! Do you have any advice on what to pack (we are flying) for this night? Expecially for my 2 1/2 son?? He loves pirate things but some of the costumes I found on the internet look like they are very heavy and I'm not sure what it will be like on the ship at the end of July. I don't want him to be overheated but then again I wasn't sure how breezy it is out at sea either...I haven't been on a curise in over 5 years so I forget the temperature at night. I'm not sure if you are allowed to take play swords/hooks and such either on a plane. Any guidance would be appeciated!

Also, if you have any other toddler tips I will take them!!

First year we brought full pirate costumes - but they were a PITA to pack , and that was before everyone started charging for checked luggage!

Now we just wear pirate T's - plus I pack the kids some dollar store eye patches, etc

We have packed the play swords in lugagge -- never tried to carry them on - but seems like the way TSA has been lately - they might be confiscated at security -- so if you are going to bring them I would put them in checked luggage

July is very hot -- on deck in my experience - Tshirts/shorts would be perfect--Usually colder in dining rooms due to A.C.

Have fun!

DS wore the Pirate bandana provided by Disney, and a little Pirate themed t-shirt.

We looked for costumes as well, and after the fact, I'm glad we didn't find one. DS didn't manage to stay awake for the main pirate party, and it was warm up on deck that night. He also had a little glow-in-the-dark sword I found at Michael's, and some glow wrist bands. It was more than enough.

I got a whole lot of glow in the dark necklaces in my FE and enjoyed handing them out to kids before the party.
Just spreading a little pixie dust!

Our children wore these costumes, from buycostumes.com, they are very light weight and didnt take up a lot of room in the suitcase. They wore them in August of 2009 and October of 2010 and were certainly not hot. Good luck with your cruise hope its as much fun as ours have been. :)

We were on the Dream in May and had our 3 year old son with us. I didn't want to bother with a costume that he would hardly wear since I had so much other stuff to pack because we also went to WDW prior to the cruise. I had lots of different pirate shirts for him but ended up just putting him in nice, regular clothes for dinner that night. He did wear his Mickey pirate ears that we had bought earlier in the week at WDW. He also had a pirate hook & pirate telescope. He really loved Mickey's pirate show! This is him below waiting for the show to begin wearing his pirate ears.

Just got off the JUNE 3 cruise on the Dream. My 5 year old was in a Jack Sparrow costume. There was a nice breeze on the deck and he did not complain once about being hot. Had to force him to remove the costume at night before bed. A lot of kids had plastic swords.

Thanks for all the suggestions...they are so great and helpful!
Do they sell pirate swords and mickey ear pirate hats on the ship? I'm guessing it would be more expensive to buy on the ship but I'm nervous about bringing play swords through the airport.

Also, I'm guessing we will be in bathing suits most of the day, right? I'm trying to figure out how much of what to take since we won't be doing laundry until we get to Disney after the cruise. My toddler LOVES swimming so I'm assuming we will be doing a lot of that.
