Hi,
My almost 4yo is a seasoned flyer-- almost all trips to WDW! and she does really well on the planes.
Some tips:
- YES, you can bring juice boxes on the plane. Even since the new restrictions-- beverages for young children were always allowed. We flew with juice boxes right after the restrictions were put in place last fall and there was no problem. We've flown twice since then and still no problem. Just no water bottles-- those you still have to buy at the terminal or ask for water on the plane.
Oh, and if you have a milk drinker, look for milk in a box. Grocery stores sell juice-box sized milk in the same area as juice boxes (or sometimes near the powdered milk). It's a lifesaver for me since it's shelf-stable, and it comes in whole or 1%, chocolate or strawberry flavors. I used it all the time when my daughter was in the height of her milk drinking stage.
- DVD player is nice, but make sure to bring a spare battery for those longer flights!
- I think the carseat is a MUST. This past trip I didn't use the car seat b/c I was flying solo with her and she just seemed too little! The seats were leather so she kept on sliding around and the seatbelt couldn't be tightened enough to really keep her in. It's a pain, but I will insist in using it for our October trip-- she'll be 4 then, but she just seems so much more comfy in it. She can actually nap in it!
- Snacks, snacks, snacks! Fruit by the foot is a good snack. It seems to last longer than fruit gummies for my daughter and it's chewy enough to relieve ear pressure. I always let her select a special snack at the store to bring on the plane. Usually something forbidden at home.
She looks forward to having it on the plane!
- If it'll be dark when you fly, something that illuminates is fun. They usually turn out the cabin lights, but my daughter doesn't like the dark. Wand/spinner toys are good (buy one at home to bring to WDW, it'll save you money!). My daughter has a few board books that play songs and have a light up object-- they have Dora, Elmo, Barney and other character ones. I've seen them at Toys R Us, bookstores, etc. Sometimes I give her a glowstick or let her use up a pack of glow bracelets (dollar store!). Keeps her busy!
- Bring a blanket. It's normally chilly on the plane and there aren't always blankets available. And most of the time, they're used (eww!).
- Gate check your stroller. You can ask at the gate to check your stroller and when you board, you just fold up your stroller and leave it at the end of the hallway (what are those "tunnels" called???). Fold it up, don't leave anything on the stoller or in the basket. If you have a bag for it, use it, although it's not necessary. You pick it up from the same area when you deplane, although you may have to wait for it.
Good luck!
Oh, my daughter thinks flying "up in the clouds" is the most fun thing so I always make sure the window is open for her to look outside. She says "Whee!" and cracks up. It's so funny to see her laugh so much about it.
