We are flying down to Orlando to do WDW in a couple of weeks. Our child is almost 4 years old and is over 42 inches tall and weighs around 50 pounds. He is big for his age, but not fat. Anyway, we will have a rental car while there. What should we do concerning him riding in the car? Take a booster seat, rent one, etc???

Can anyone suggest a inexpensive waterproof backpack?

If it rains, what do you do about the stroller? Let it get wet or cover it somehow? We may take our own stroller. Wouldn't that be a pain to carry that thing on a bus to the park?

I'd take your own booster seat with you. Florida law requires any child under the age of 5 to be restrained using one. Also, I don't think car rental agencies carry booster seats, only car seats, but I could be wrong with that. I've also read MANY reports of people renting car seats and getting to the counter and them either being out of the seats being in such bad shape. I don't have waterproof backpack, if its raining it just gets wet. I actually don't have a rain cover for my stroller, if it's really raining, I won't leave it, but if it looks like rain, I'll cover it with a poncho. It works, and my DS wouldn't ride with the rain shield anyway. We just use the poncho again, to keep him and the stroller dry. I have an umbrella stroller, Peg Perego Pliko, so it's really easy to get on/off the busses with it.

we always take our own carseats/booster, I just feel safer that way. Personally, my nearly 6 year old is still using a carseat (highbacked booster), and she will be using one for a long time to come so why should it be any different on vacation.

I use a rain shield on my stroller - my dd doesn't particularly like to ride under it, but she will if it's raining hard, but it does keep the stroller nice and dry if you leave it anywhere. I didn't have a lot of success with a poncho.

We used an umbrella stroller, and it wasn't a hassle on the buses. We saw plenty of people with much bigger strollers on the buses.

Since you won't need the booster on the plane you could get a folding backless one to save on luggage. When we went in May we took our own stroller and brought one of those neatsheet water proof covers for the stroller in case of rain. I tied it to the stroller handles and rolled it up to keep it out of the way. When we parked the stroller I just unrolled it and it covered it completely. It also keep the stroller cool and made it easy to find.

This is our first time bringing our kids, however we are bringing both car seats and a stroller cover. We bought ponchos at CVS before our trips before and now have bought them for the kids. If it rains, we put our backpacks on our backs and cover them up with the poncho. This has worked great in the past!

We are bringing our double unbrella stroller. It might be a little bit of a hassle on the monorail or the busses, but I would rather that then kids wwondering all over the place..which mine do!

If you are looking for a H2O proof bag..I would try looking at the luggage stores. However..they might be pricey! I hope you have a great trip!

Oh..I bought the stroller rain cover on one step ahead, mine is a double stroller and I spent over $16 for it. the Ponchos to buy somewhere else is a good idea especially if you have kids. Everyone buys the yellow ones with Mickey on them and if it pours rain all you can see is a sea of yellow..so if you have other colors it is much easier to spot each other!

I am planning on taking my booster seat for my 3 year old. As for your backpack, I saw a tip about Scottguarding it to make it waterproof. I am going to try it for our trip. Cathy

As for the back packs..we found a nice one at Target and it was waterproof. also a good place to look is sporting goods stores for camping etc..they are frequently waterproof. we also scotchguarded are other pack and it worked fine..that's the cheapest way if you already have a pack you like.
