Today's Modern Conveniences.... ya can't live without them!

What modern convenience, that when it first came out you thought was ridiculous, can you now not live without?

I never thought I would be hooked to my cell phone. Who the heck do I need to call when I am in my car? But of course, now I feel I can't live without one!

I know there are people that can't live without their PDA's or TIVO but I haven't succombed to that new technology yet.

How about you? Is there anything you thought was completely unnecessary and now you would freak out without it?

I would have to say my computer with my internet! I don't even watch the TV for news anymore, just check the web!

Right after we got married(1995) DH wanted to buy a computer at the cost of $2000.00! I thought he was crazy...why do we need a computer? He finally sold me on the fact that I could email my friend in NY, anytime, with no long distance charge, and I agreed. We are now on our 3rd or maybe 4th computer and well, lets just say this morning when I couldnt get through to the internet I was having withdrawals.

I was late getting into the game with just about everything.
I actually got my first microwave (back in 1989...long ago when I had no money) from a neighbor who threw one out. I brought it home and when I started it caught on fire inside!!

Ex hubby noticed it had carbon build up on the ceiling inside and when he cleaned it off it worked perfect. We had it for years. It was HUGE.. you could probably cook a turkey in it. I was SO amazed that I could a potato in 10 minutes instead of an hour.

I didnt have my first cel phone until 4 years ago. Now I couldnt feel good about going out without someone being able to contact me if there was an emergency.

I didnt have my first computer until 7 years ago and I can remember watching TV commercials for the internet and dreaming about how great it would be. My kids school gave me an older computer (I worked there every day) that was going to be recycled and I was SOOOOOOO excited. It was about a 15 meg (now I have a 1.8 gig!!) I met my hubby using that old thing!!

I also have to say that the "cell phone" invention seemed so outlandish to me!! Of course, now I can't travel without one! Not that I use it much at all...but just knowing it's there, makes me feel like I have a guardian angel with me at all times!! Not to mention that now I can leave the house without worrying if I'm missing a phone call from the school that my DS is ill or injured!

I would have to say my computer, internet, and MSN MESSENGER!!! I LOVE it! I can actually have IM's with those NOT on my ISP. Wooooooooooooooooo hooooooooooooooo!

My Palm PDA. I used to carry around one of those huge day-planner books. I put work stuff AND home stuff in it so it went everywhere with me.

Now everything is on my Palm - SOOO much easier to have with me than that huge book!! I'm hooked!
