What horrible thing happened to you today?

The HDMI port on our cable box quit working so today they came and replaced the unit. Currently they don't have the technology to download the memory of the DVR so all our stuff was lost. I had almost an entire season of Call the Midwife saved for a special binge and since our cable provider doesn't archive any PBS shows for on-demand, there's no recourse but to wait for it to drop on Netflix in a year or so.

One of the deadbolts (front door) won’t open with a key (from the outside). We rarely open it with a key, but my DH discovered that it just won’t work. It’s almost seven years old and was installed when we got a new front and back door. Both are keyed the same. DH took it apart and oiled it all but it still won’t work. We’ll have to replace it but also use it occasionally afterwards. Yes, first world problem. Nothing lasts anymore. It was expensive. This is just what happened today. Don’t get me started on all the appliances we’ve had to replace lately and repairs that we needed to do.

This is my nightmare so I totally feel your pain. I think I have about 40 movies on our pvr. I’ve seen most of them multiple times, but I’d hate to lose them. Back in the day I’d go on eBay and buy them all but the days of $1 movies are long over.

My first world problem is that I am just not feeling right, physically. My knee hurts, but not more than a minor twinge for the moment. I can go to any clinic or hospital in the country and have whatever test or operation that I need, for ‘free’, and I just don’t want to be bothered to get dressed and go out and wait for care.

My sympathy for people who don’t have insurance or who have to go through hoops to get care has been increased a million times over as I’ve gotten older.

Our healthcare is a huge blessing and I know how lucky we are.

Our office just banned space heaters. Not only were those nice when it was too cold in there, they also make a nice foot stool. That is probably more than just a first world whine

My daughter bought a mint plant for our garden a couple weeks ago but it's still risky to plant in my area of PA (we have danger of frost through May here) so I have all the plants lined up on a sunny windowsill but I got kind of lazy for a couple days and didn't water them and now the mint appears to be dying. I watered heavily in the hope that it will recover, if not ill have to break the news to her.

I have social events tonight and tomorrow night that I am not looking forward to, particularly the one tonight. I won’t know many people tonight, I’m not sure what to wear and I have a bit of social anxiety in most social situations anyway. I prefer to be home.

Yesterday morning someone posted ALL the spoilers for Avengers Endgame on this board. I saw it by accident before the Mods removed it. :(
same thing happened to me. i'm just gonna pretend like it was wild fan theory and they were messing with us.

Does your PBS station have Passport on its website? You should be able to watch all of the past shows on that though you need to be a PBS member.
(Sorry, OT - not a whine):P

Yes, become a Passport member. Where I live it's $5/month (cancel anytime) and it gives you extended access to PBS shows.

I haven’t actually looked but I doubt becoming a PBS member is in my future. Thanks for the idea though. :wave2:

My daughter's HS lacrosse team was stuck on their bus in rush-hour traffic for over 2 hours while the other team got in extra practice. They finally arrived sleepy and lethargic, and lost their first game of the season.

Then on the way home, I needed to stop for gas and still beat the bus back to the school, but went left at the fork in the expressway instead of right and started heading to downtown Chicago instead of the suburbs. I just wanted to get home already, but had to figure out how to navigate the Edens Expressway that was down to one lane of traffic because of construction!

My wife and I are trying very hard to pick between a class A and a class C RV. We've been at this for over a month and I'm not sure we're ever gonna be able to decipher which is the best for what we want to do.

I got a sunburn because I had complete leisure time to go to the beach for a couple of hours. But don't get too excited for that...it's a man made beach about 5 min from my house and the view, in one direction, is of the chemical plant across the bay and a beat up pier destroyed during hurricane Harvey in the other direction. But, it was sand, sun and water :)
