I know it's not the PC thing to collect these days, but I'm not always PC.

I remember the tobacco shop on main street, I even have matchbooks from there. I have seen lots of Zippo's with Disney characters, castle logo, etc...

I am wondering if Disney ever had their own boxes of cigars? Does anyone have or know of any cigar boxes with Disney on them? Any other items of interest?

Yes, they did. I know for certain they sold at least one type. There was a small wooden cigar box with a sliding top that held two cigars. It had Walt Disney World written across the top. I believe it contained two cigars from Ybor City (outside Tampa) enclosed.

I don't know if there were others sold. I've been try to get my hands on one of the WDW Zippo lighters with the castle on it for years. They usually sell for hundreds of $$.

Thanks Lisa, that is a great heads-up. My search for the Disney cigar box has direction now.

Anyone else have any info like this?

Hello Mountain Fan- I have a cigar box that is from VERY EARLY WDW. It is made of solid, unfinished wood (maybe redwood teak?) and measures approx 9 1/8" across, 7" deep and 1 1/2" thick. The top has the black printed logo with the Contemp, the Castle and a sail boat on stylized waves- copyright "Walt Disney Productions, Walt Disney World, 25 CIGARS. The front has a gold tone metal pivot clasp, with matching hinges on the back, and printing "W. D. Cazadores"; this name is also printed on both short sides. The bottom has a "City of Tampa Florida" seal imprint and some other printing. The same logo artwork is repeated on the inside of the top of the box. There is also an original paper price sticker from WDW that says... "8110... .55 plus tax". This is evidence that the cigars were sold individually.

Like I said, the logo is very early- not the earliest pre-opening, because it does not have the "Florida pennant" like much of the very first logos. If I were to guess, this box was was only there for the first year, maybe a little into the second year.

Yeah, the people who collect Zippo's are willing to pay big bucks for the hard to find pieces, which is usually not the case with Disneyana collectors. The WDW lighters are relatively available, the Disneyland ones are hard to find in good condition.

I assume you have already looked at the "Disney Cigar" boxes in the completed auctions of eBay. If you want, I could send you some pics of the cigar box I have. Just let me know...

(This one's for you Kath...)

Wow, that's awesome. Yes, I'd love to see pics. Thanks for the info, I'll ad that to my quest.

Ohhhhh, that is nice flyinglizard. Thanks for posting the pics. I gottta get me one of those.

I did manage to pick up one of the 2 cigar boxes this weekend (thanks for the discription wdw4us2), it is just how you discribed it. I'll get some pics posted.

Flyinglizard, I did the completed listings search on e-bay and actually found one of the 2 cigar boxes that sold recently, nothing else.

Kathy (katink), are you gonna have some cool stuff soon?????

Mountain Fan- Nice pics- I've never looked at the twin pack box real close. Interesting there is no Disney copyright, but it would have been WDP anyway.

The main reason I bought the big box from WDW is because of the early logo art. I've always been a fan of the really early stuff.

I looked through the Disney Licensees published in Tomart and "W. D. Cazadores" does not appear. Probably because it was only a "local" resource for WDW only. Interesting huh?

I reread your original post, and you really didn't ask specifically about WDW. Disneyland also sold their own cigars for many years. Don't know when they started or ended. I do know that there were "Disneyland" cigar bands that were apparently wrapped around the sealed cellophane sleeves before being offered for sale. I've never seen a "Disneyland Cigar" box. I've carried one of these cigar bands in my wallet for many years for Good Luck! It's getting a little worn after all the years though... the band, not the luck!

Just be patient and keep checking eBay, you should eventually find the box like mine at a reasonable price- there are not a lot of WDW collectors out there that I have seen!
