Toaster oven vs. your regular oven?

We had to buy a new toaster oven last night as ours finally died after 5 years.... We use ours probably 5 - 6 days a week... So I thought that 5 years was a good long time / value. Not bad for a $40 purchase, IMO. This time we bought a more expnsive and larger version..... holds 6 slices of toast, and is convection as well.

OTOH, we maybe use our full size oven 2x a month... I bet sometimes we go for more than a month without using it at all.

Which oven do you use more, and by how much?

Definitely the toaster oven. My DH prefers his food reheated in it over the microwave. As long as it fist in the toaster oven, we will use that over the oven.

I hate our regular oven. When we get a new one, we'll probably use it more.

Like you, I use the toaster oven a lot more than the regular oven. My toaster oven is not convection (regular oven is) but it's one of the six slice type and has a rounded out front so it will fit larger items including a full sized pizza.

We use our toaster oven more also. We only use the oven if we're cooking something large that won't fit in the toaster oven. We haven't used the big oven in a while, and man did I feel that kitchen smoking when that turkey was in it. WHEW!

Our turkey just came out of the oven - family was away on Thanksgiving - and my wife just called me and was talking about how hot the kitchen is right now.

toaster oven usually if it fits. But the toaster oven runs hotter so I have to be careful or the top burns.

Our toaster oven gets used every day for various things....waffles, chicken nuggets, frozen french fries, etc.

Our oven gets used probably every-other day. I like to bake a lot of cookies, muffins, etc., besides dinner.

That is knd of why we bought a new one... I made chicken yesterday... chicken tenders. It looked really well cooked on the outside... I slid the chicken onto a low carb wrap... I bit into RAW CHICKEN! :scared1:

But we knew there was a problem beforehand as toast was starting to cook poorly.

Oven..

Toaster oven only for toast; english muffins; waffles.. (Mainly because DD's family doesn't have an actual toaster here.. At the lake, I use my toaster that is wide enough to accomodate bagels; english muffins; waffles; etc.)

Microwave only to reheat a homemade frozen dinner.. I've never tasted anything "cooked" in a microwave that wasn't horrible.. Yuck!

I have a kitchenette, so I have no oven. I use my 6- slice toaster oven all the time. :thumbsup2 I have been eyeing the convection combos.

PD, I'd be interested in knowing how well both the convection feature and the browning/broiler works in your new oven, (not at the same time,) once you've given it a good test drive, & what brand & make it is. :surfweb:

That was the only down side of the various reviews I read a while ago. Most of the convection toaster ovens weren't good broilers, or weren't good for toasting bread in the end.

I broil chops & steaks in mine all the time, bake salmon, meatloaf & crisp up puff pastry items. I use the toaster feature to heat up my pizza slices, as it heats both sides at once. I'm not willing to give up the ability to do all of these well, just to shave off a few minutes having the convection feature.

I must be weird. I use my oven more than toaster oven.

Toaster (regular) for waffles, toast, english muffins.......

Toaster oven for garlic bread slices, english muffin pizzas & I can't think of much more.

Oven for cooking meats, casseroles, pizza & baking.

Microwave for reheating, popcorn & melting things.

Maybe its because we don't have kids & aren't cooking chicken nuggets & french fries. :confused3

Actually went 18 yrs of marriage without a toaster oven & only bought one 2 years ago because I needed it for my job of passing out samples at some stores. I honestly think I've cooked more in it for that than I have at home. LOL I have a Cuisinart toaster oven. It works very well compared to some other sample ladies cheaper ovens. Very even & I never have burning like they do. Its taller than theirs so that may be why.

My regular oven & toaster oven both have convection also, but I've only used convection on my regular oven so far.

Splash doing the typing again? :teeth:

Actually the Cuisinart convection toaster oven did get good reviews at Amazon. That was one of the ones I was eyeing at Bed, bath & Beyand a while back. And I have a 20% off coupon for that store. :cool1:

I've never owned a toaster oven but have been wanting one for awhile now. If anyone has a particular model they love (or hate) please share. Thanks!

My favorite thing for the toaster oven is making small batches of cookies. Since we always seem to have a tub or two of cookie dough at home - some nights after the kids have gone off to bed, I'll make 6 cookies for DH and I in the toaster oven. It satisfies our sweet tooth and I don't have to take all pots out of the oven to do this.

Also, as a side note, this can only be done while watching the Biggest Loser :rotfl2: That show makes us hungry for some reason. :rotfl2:

I'd say I use them about equally. I use the toster oven for small amounts of things that don't heat well in the microwave, like one or two servings of tater tots, leftover pizza, or to warm up a piece of bread (i like bread warm but not toasted) and things like that. I use the oven when making larger quanties, baking, or cooking from scatch (like roasting chicken). But I only have a small (two slice) basic black and decker model. If I had a larger, fancier one I might use it more.
