Heading to the world in 31 days and as we are going the last two weeks of August there's quite a lot of availability for things I've never given much thought to, such as the wild Africa trek.

It will be me, DH and dd(8)

DH is a little concerned about heights ... He won't ride rip ride rocket over at universal as it's "high"

Has anyone been on this trek? Is it worth the money? Are the heights that bad? Also we don't take cameras bar my iPhone, can I take that providing its in a pocket? How many people are on huge trek with you? Would they be able to cater for a coeliac on the snack/meal at the end?

Thanks for any info you can give

We did the Wild Africa Trek and loved it.
Are the heights that bad?
I didn't think so, but then I'm not afraid of heights.

No loose items, including cell phones. Anything you take on the tour must be leashed to the mesh vest they provide.

There was 6 on our tour, but there can be up to 12.
Would they be able to cater for a coeliac on the snack/meal at the end?
You would need to let them know of any food allergies at the time of booking so they can prepare something appropriate for you.

The Wild Africa Trek was pretty expensive, but one of the most unique experiences we've had in our many years of going to Disney. One of our favorite memories!

They make it look much more "adventurous" than it really is. Not that it's not cool~ it is, just not crazy adventurous (It's Disney ;))
I'm a little leary of heights and had no problem with the bridges.

They take lots of photos which you will get on a disk, so really no need for your camera/phone.

My DD has quite a few food allergies and they accommodated her nicely for the meal. Like erionm said, just note it when you book.

I say it's worth a once in a lifetime experience, albeit an expensive one...

Photos are no longer on CD, they give you a code to view/download them from a website.

That would make sense with the way they do photos, etc. now.
We did the tour a while ago, so we were low tech :goodvibes

If you watch Seeyareelsoon on YouTube, one of their trip videos in September 2013 they did the Trek. You could watch it to get an idea if it's for you ;)

It gets really great reviews.

If you already have enough theme park time built in, are looking for something special, and have the budget for it, I think it looks like a great option.

We seriously considered it, but given that our theme park time was limited and the theme parks would be special enough for us and the high cost, we didn't do it. It looks like a fantastic experience though and I doubt for example that our family will ever get over to Africa and go on Safari there -- so looking at it that way, I am considering maybe budgeting for it on another trip.

I've been following posts for this tour since last year and I can honestly say I've never read a negative review, and most people say it was amazing. I'm pretty sure there are still summer discounts for this tour ($50/person I believe) so definitely check that out if you're planning on going. I would LOVE to do it. I'm afraid of heights but I've heard great reviews from others who feel the same way.

I had planned on surprising my daughter with this tour in November for her 17th birthday because the safari is one of her favorite rides, but she desperately wants to see Diagon Alley. Looks like we may end up visiting the Dark Side instead since the price would be about the same (unfortunately no discounted tour prices for November which would've swayed the decision).
