Greetings!

My husband is planning on doing DiveQuest in August for his 40th birthday. He would like to do the dive on 8/30 (his birthday), but is concerned because we are flying home on 8/31. Do you think this will cause any problems? What is the actual depth of the tank?

We were booked on the Eastbound Panama Canal cruise, but the cost was taking on a life of it's own, so we cancelled. There goes his diving in Curacao on his 40th... I really want to give him the DiveQuest experience, at least.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Karen

Divers Alert Network suggests 12hours between diving and flying, for a single non deco dive. So if the dive ends at say 8:00 pm , flying at 8:00 am the next day should be acceptable, if my early morn addition is correct. I would suggest you refer to dan.org for additional info. There are many factors involved in DCS and flying after diving. Depth is not the only factor to consider. Hope this helps. Following is from DAN.

The following guidelines are the consensus of attendees at the 2002 Flying After Diving Workshop. They apply to air dives followed by flights at cabin altitudes of 2,000 to 8,000 feet (610 to 2,438 meters) for divers who do not have symptoms of decompression sickness (DCS). The recommended preflight surface intervals do not guarantee avoidance of DCS. Longer surface intervals will reduce DCS risk further.

* For a single no-decompression dive, a minimum preflight surface interval of 12 hours is suggested.
* For multiple dives per day or multiple days of diving, a minimum preflight surface interval of 18 hours is suggested.
* For dives requiring decompression stops, there is little evidence on which to base a recommendation and a preflight surface interval substantially longer than 18 hours appears prudent.

I have done Dive Quest before, I do not believe there would be a problem. The waters depth is 25 ft if I remember right. If he has any concerns just make sure he does the earlier dive @ 4:30. It's not the ocean, but still a good time.

Is this for certified divers only? I'm cert. but DS hasn't taken his open water dive yet. Might be a fun thing to do together.

Sorry, Its for certified divers only. You will be asked to show your C card. Whey not get your DS to complete his OW dives and then do DQ as a kind of graduation present?
