Dear RV owner who was parked at the RV area of Disneyland today Sunday Feb. 15th. ~
As we were driving in to the park on the street marked "Parks" , my Dfi and I saw your dog a beautiful black Great Dane running the wrong way down the street. We stopped the car and I ran after him. As he made a right and headed onto the 5 south fwy on ramp, Janice a wonderful CM, followed as she had seen him running through the parking lot having pushed open the RV window and escaped, I guess looking for you. As he eluded about 10 carsand as my d fi and I were trying to desperately catch your dog, I tried to grab him and he ran into oncoming traffic on the 5. As I walked into the lanes and stopped 4 lanes of traffic, your dog was hit. The SUV that hit him pulled over, To my surprise, your dog was standing there. looking completely freaked out. But, he was standing there.
All 5 lanes of traffic were stopped, as my Dfi held his arms out and walked slowly to your dog and walked him off the FWY. Yes, today we risked our lives for your dog. We love dogs. Janice was able to call animal control and the Hwy patrol. A motorcycle cop and a HWY Patrol man pulled over and took your dog to the vet. His face is a little bloody and he was really scared. But had he been smaller, he would NOT have survived. I am still in shock and so is Dfi. For the first time ever, Disneyland was no fun.
But, I am thankful that your boy was able to take time to sit in the back seat of my car until the HWY Patrol was able to take him to the vet.
To any other RV families who come to DL with your pets , I am begging you, please leave your dog in the kennel at DL. It may suck for him but he wont be able to escape. To the family of the dog. I am sending you and your dog big big hugs. I hope he is alright. And to Janice, thank you for all your help. WE did it together.
p.s. this is the abridged version. It took sooo long. But it was completely scary and right now I am drinking a big glass of scotch. It will take time to decompress. but man was that scary!!!!!

That is awful!!! I hope he is okay and doesn't have any internal injuries!!! I can't believe people can't pay the $20 or so to kennel their dogs!

Thats what Im saying. I dont know the extent of his injuries but he stood with us for a while and then got into the back seat of our car to chill out. I dont know but I think he will be okay. we are waiting for the HWY patrol or Janice to get back to us about the dogs condition.
so when I find out, Ill post the info.

Wow.

You took a huge risk going on the freeway. I hope the owner hears about it. Special blessings to you.

That poor dog. It breaks my heart. Seriously, trying to save $20? That dog could have died. :(

Big hugs to you and your fiance and that CM for helping that dog. Who knows what would have happened to him if you guys weren't there. :flower3:

I am aghast right now. I'm so glad that you and the dog are alright.

I'm just shocked that he didn't sense he was going into 65 mph oncoming traffic.

Wow, you and your DFi were big heroes today! That family should be very thankful for you two. :thumbsup2
I'm glad to hear that the dog is okay. I'm sure it missed its owners and wanted to find them. Just don't go on the freeways doggies!

That was such a wonderful thing you did. Its very rare these days to find people who are willing to risk their lifes to save people or even pull over to help someone who is broke down these days let alone an animal! You and your DFi are great people as is the CM who helped! Thank you to all of you for proving there are still great people out there.

Do you know if the dog got back to its owners? I surely how they are ever so grateful.

Wow. I wonder if the owner even knows what happened to the dog or just thinks the dog escaped, never to return. I don't suppose anyone knew who the specific owner of the RV was, huh?

Anyway, I love dogs too (well, animals in general) and I would have been traumatized to see that poor baby get hit on the freeway - even though he was still standing. I would be having nightmares about it. I so hope that he is okay and didn't suffer internally too much. But the poor thing is going to be in such shell-shock now, totally spooked by cars and people, I would imagine.

You and Kyle and Janice did a wonderful and very brave thing. I am glad you guys are safe, I am glad the owner of the vehicle that hit the dog is safe - it could have been SO much worse for the dog and everyone else. If the driver of the vehicle that hit the dog had swerved in the wrong direction or caused a pile up behind him/her, or if any of this had happened TODAY, when it is pouring rain outside, I can't imagine what the scenario could have been like.

Okay folks, First let me say thank you all so much for letting me tell the story. I needed to talk about it and I knew that this was the place.
The dog is okay. The vet has taken care of his wounds and the dog owners have been notified as they were in fact guests of Disneyland and the dog had escaped from the RV that Janice had seen with the window pushed out.
The CHP officer had called Kyle this morning to let us know that the dog is okay and will be at the vets until tomorrow when the owners can pick him up.
As far as we are doing,we are still a little shell shocked but knowing that the dog is going to be okay and the owners know what happened makes us feel better.
Okay, so we will be going back to DL next weekend to reset our Disney clocks.
Big hugs to everyone. Be safe and have a great weekend.
And to anyone traveling in an RV with dogs, at DL, Please consider putting your dog in the Disneyland Kennel.
I know your dog may be more comfortable in the RV surroundings but to avoid your pet getting loose, the kennel will keep a good eye on your pet while you are in the park.
I can only imagine the horror of those poor people when they got back to their RV to find the window open and their poor guy missing.
Okay. Thats all Ive got for now.
Whew!!!

OT for a moment, but on a more uplifting animal note (sort of):

This was the cutest thing. There are many squirrels in my L.A. neighborhood, especially during the spring and summer. I am not used to seeing them when it is raining like it has been today. I know they are rodents, but they are cute. One of my freelance clients just dropped something off with me and I had to run outside and get it out of his trunk. I pulled out the paper bag with handles (like what you get from the grocery store) that he left for me and as I shut the trunk lid I noticed a furry squirrel tail scurrying under my client's car. My client pulled away and as I walked back to my apartment, I nervously turned around to make sure he hadn't rolled over the squirrel. I saw no trace of the squirrel where the car had been. I began to climb my apartment building's steps when, all of a sudden, what I assume was the same squirrel appeared out of nowhere at my feet. I think the rustling of the paper bag had caught his/her attention and he/she thought it was someone coming home with food. I felt so bad for this little thing, sitting at my feet like a hungry puppy and looking up at me. Normally, squirrels are afraid of people so I knew it must have been hungry. I took a few steps to move away. The squirrel started to follow me, romping up and down. We are told not to feed squirrels in the area because of how quickly they 'spread the word' to their friends, and this was taking place right in front of my landlord's window so I couldn't 'disobey.' I wanted to go inside and grab some nuts or whatever I could scrape together to feed this poor critter, but I know that feeding one squirrel means that I would suddenly find hundreds of squirrels outside my window by tomorrow! I have caved into the cuteness of squirrels in the distant past and it was a disaster. Plus, I knew that by the time I got to my apartment and found something for him/her to munch on and got back outside, he/she would probably be gone because someone scared him/her away. But as I went up the steps, I turned to see the little squirrel sitting at the bottom of the steps with hopeful eyes and a fluffy tail, wondering if he/she should climb up after me and wondering if I was going to bring out some food. It broke my heart not to do it!:sad2:

I'm so happy the dog is doing well at the vet's office! I hope he heals nicely and the owners learn something from this. Thanks for doing your part to make sure the dog made it home okay! :goodvibes

That is fantastic news! I bet it will take a while for your heart to stop pounding, though. That was a scary situation for everybody.

Oh my goodness. What you did was amazing. And I really hope that the owners have the courtesy to thank you through a note or something at the vets office. Not everybody would go out of their way like that.

I just wanted to send out kudos as well. I can only hope that my small children will one day be as unselfish as you, your fiance' and the CM. Also, I didn't know that DL had kennels! Maybe the owners didn't either? :confused3

TBH, I'm surprised something like this didn't show up on the news! Stopping all names of southbound 5 traffic with a hit dog? That's serious business. You deserve a key to the city! :wizard:

Yikes. What a story. Sounds like a great thing that you did. I bet the owner/s feel horrible about what happened. Or would, if they KNEW....? Do we know if they know the whole story yet?
